Hi and Help!
Since today my external firewire-HD with two partitions refuses to mount. The finder says something like: "cant read the CD/DVD" (actually the message is in german; im german; so: sorry for my bad english!)
The Disk-Utility-Program do recognize the HD but not the two partitions that are on the HD, so i cant run any repair-programs; i can only initialize the disk...
techTool and DiskWarrior dont even recognize the disk at all:-((
I have done a restart, checked the disk with another computer (same problem), ive done a PRAM-reset and i used applejack to reset other settings.
I tried the terminal and diskutil - list and thats what i get:
/dev/disk0
#: type name size identifier
0: GUIDpartitionscheme 111.8 GB disk0
1: EFI 200.0 MB disk0s1
2: Apple_HFS Macintosh HD 111.5 GB disk0s2
/dev/disk1
#: type name size identifier
0:
232.9 GB disk1
I guess it is a problem with the directory or the mount point??
Any ideas? The german forums can not help me:-((
(Im working with a MacBook Pro, 2,16 gHz)
Thanks
Chris

So it is an HFS format?????
If Disk warrior didn't do the trick this is the next step but you need access to a PC

does drive also support usb?
do you have another firewire or usb external case the same size?
try moving the hd to one of those if you do.

I have access to the drive, but not to the data on it. I managed to take a look on the HD with "Data Rescue" and i found strange things: there were folders listed that never existet on the drive, but on another computer the drive was connected to (what happens if you use a external HD to take your data with you;-))
Is there an explanation for that behaviour?
The funny thing is: i already ordered a new HD to make backups and the new drive will probably arrive tomorrow;-))
Thanks so far!
Chris

you did not answer these questions.
physically move the hard drive to another case.
the firewire case could be the problem.

Upps - sorry!
I have another case with usb... i moved the HD and it made no difference.
maybe i need a hardware-psychiatrist as my harddrive thinks she/he/it (?) is an DVD;-))
