I have a G4 1.4 Mhz Mini with 512 MB of RAM running Tiger. I have found 1 GB upgrade at OWC for about $55. Is it worth upgrading the memory in this machine? Will the difference be that noticable?

The answer is yes. I have a mini 1.25 G4 with 1 gb ram and it runs faster than my friend's 1.4 G4 with 512mb RAM. It is worth it. You'll notice the OS runs much faster and snappier.
However, before you go buying it.. make sure you understand the task at hand when installing the RAM into the MAc Mini. If you dont trust yourself opening up the Mini, send it in for the upgrade, or find someone who does...

512 MB is the bare minimum that anyone should have to run OS X, but once you open a few applications your Mac mini has to start using the hard drive as virtual memory due to a lack of physical RAM. The data transfer rates of even the fastest hard drives is substantially slower than any contemporary memory technology by orders of magnitude and on the G4 Mac mini that fact is compounded by the slow 4200 rpm laptop drives that Apple opted to use to reduce potential heat damage; a typical desktop hard drive rotates at 7200 rpm. Upgrading your Mac minis memory to 1 GB will give your mini more breathing room for running multiple applications, so you should definitely notice a difference unless you are doing some rather demanding tasks for which the Mac mini was not designed.
