What these sites are enthused about this week is a technology demo from Stardock, which brings the much loved, or loathed Dock to Windows.
The demo is about a year old, Stardock's CEO Brad Wardell told us. Apple has gone after Stardock before, when the company was caught in one of its early and fairly indiscriminate sweeps against Aqua tributes.
Stardock provides skinning technology and other UI enhancements that make Windows bearable. It launched its own highly configurable and customizable ObjectBar more than a year ago. A couple of years ago it began to trial a scriptable, object-based UI called DesktopX, that we'd like to see other OSes try and emulate, as the results can be dazzling. The screenshot of Brad's desktop shows animated desktop icons with shadows, which Apple will surely want to emulate at some point.
Look blank> here. It really is pretty cool looking -- and seems to add some features that I would like to have for my own Mac OS X desktop.

It's interesting how Windows is morphing into OS X in some ways, but the developed apps by Stardock are nice and it mentions something about Apple employing similar effects for some things.

I have no doubts that if Apple released a cheap non-display desktop Mac capable of running Jaguar, so that users could utilize their old monitors, something like Mac for masses or old LC 630, they would sell tremendous quantity.
Lets say, current Power Macs are overpowered. I mean, they are server class machines. Yet, consumers can choose only between server class machines or monitor-bundled emac or imac. Basically, mac users have no choice.
Imagine now single CPU, 933 or 1 gz desktop Mac without monitor. It could cost as low as 699-800 $. It would sell like hot cake. For example, not everyone may need dual 1.25 CPU just for surfing net. Yet, not everyone needs additional displays.
Single CPU cheap LC/performa style desktop mac would be real hit.
I owned LC630 cause then I couldnt afford anything faster; but it ran perfectly Word 5.1, Illustrator 7 and even Photoshop 4.0; I coudl play Marathon with it. There is no such low-cost desktop Mac now (eMac is with display - and thus costs higher); but there is need, especially when market is pretty saturated now. Pros will buy dual CPUs anyway.

Pretty cool for just a beta. It would be nice if they gave a right click option, right now a right click will just open the settings for that item, like name, icon and target. Also I dont know if theres a way to add OS X icons to it, but the icon library they give you is pretty limited, normal windows icons are blurry in it.
Heres a screenshot I took: http://www.newelysiu.../forum/dock.jpg

I now have a dock but can someone tell me how to replace the icons of my applications so that they'll look good when maximized in the dock? Right now they're all fuzzy?
Where can I download icons for applications and how do I change them?
Thanks for your help. images/icons/smile.gif
