If you are an organization or small-business looking for iWeb to do anything more than the basics, and particularly if you are not a .Mac customer, you will be disappointed. The blogging feature still lacks some standard features found in other common blog products, but it will do for most personal use. more

I think it's great for small personal websites. Check out my dog's blog! http://web.mac.com/mwheeler1/SugarsNewForeverHome/ Sugar's blog

Does anyone know if I can redirect just a subdomain to my .Mac account? For example, can I have just gallery.mydomain.com redirect to .Mac but keep www.mydomain.com going to my current hosting service? I really like the .Mac web gallery interface but prefer other aspects of my webhost to .Mac.

For those of us that fall in the small business, not a dotmac customer category, would you care to recommend an alternative?

I really like and recommend Sandvox from Karelia for small business websites. http://www.karelia.com

Nothing was mentioned about the "photos turning dark" issue in iWeb '08. Many users as well as myself are seeing our photos get considerably darker in iWeb. It has been suggested on the Apple forums to turn off the preference to "optimize photos on import" but that does not seem to solve the problem of photos turning very dark. Thanks for the good info in this review.

It's not Flash, is it? It does look really nice and it isn't how QuickTime movies usually look, but I don't think it's Flash. Check this site.

And try the movies on the bottom. Doing a right click doesn't show the "Flash" contextual pop-up. Looking through Safari's "Activity" window doesn't show any Flash files either...

Rapidweaver is another fine choice. RW has also seen an avid 3rd-party developer community evolve around it as well.

I set up my personal domain with GoDaddy.com and it was easy.
Changing the CNAME is easy, finding it is hard. I just googled "iWeb cname godaddy" and was pointed to a link that has step-by-step instructions on how to navigate the user settings in GoDaddy to get where I needed to go.
Now, all I have to do is come up with interesting content That's the hard part!:)

If you want to publish directly to your own server, you can output your site to a folder (File: Publish to a Folder), but you will need to use your own FTP software to upload it, which kind of defeats the purpose of one-click publishing.

Not necessarily. It is possible to mount your server's directory as a folder on your local machine, then simply publish to that folder. For example, my web server is on DreamHost, which provides Apple Filing Protocol (AFP) support, so my website is always mounted as if it were a local drive. No FTP software needed!

This won't quite work I think. .Mac requires the www. point to it. You can, however, have this scenario work: http://www.mydomain.com points to .Mac while http://mydomain.com is still your own host.
