I had believed Apple propaganda that Iweb08 was good for all purposes. Oh well.
I posted these questions elsewhere but may get a more rapid answer here.
With IWeb08, it is possible somehow to put in keywords and metatags in order for higher listings eventually? That is, can I get to the source code page somehow? In reveiws, it said users of this update could add html.
Would that only be in that html snippet? Besides bits of movies, can it be used (and is the only way) to put in a stat counter, or even Paypal buttoms and a shopping cart, or is the site solely for families exchanging pictures.

Once you've published your page, you can add whatever you like to the html. From what I've read, though, since a site author can put whatever they want in the meta tags, Google relies more on the page content than meta tags (except for their own, which offer no content specific or ranking info).

Google's top rankings go to sites that are already well established and have been linked to many times by many many other sites. There are other criteria, but these are the main ones. The way to get a high ranking is to have content that Google finds unique. There are certain terms that when you search in Google, my pages come in the top 5 or so links. That's because I used certain phrases on my site that register high in Google's uniqueness filter. (They're used in context, not as the same phrase posted over and over and over and over)

If there is a web snippet a site is offering, you can use that in iWeb with it's web widgets feature. A counter, Paypal buttons, etc. If it's more than a simple snippet of code (if it depends on the server also having certain features) then it's too much for iWeb's simple implementation.

I've been using Macs exclusively since 1991 and am pretty computer literate. I run a micro business and want to create a site from scratch that will probably have many pages. I've experimented with some simple web programs in the past including a copy of iWeb '06 that I purchased as part of iLife, but did not find it too intuitive. For some reason, I've had difficulty operating the simple web software. After Leopard springs, I want to start building a new site for myself , but this review of iWeb '08 is not enticing at all.
I'll want to publish to my own domain, and will take the time to enter meta tag data for pages. Is there any consensus about simple alternatives to iWeb? I see in this forum that Rapidweaver and Sandvox have been mentioned. I'm not familiar witrh these but am prepared to grow with a simple, powerful program for computer literate, web design-impaired novices. Any feelings about how these stack up against Freeway 4 Express?
Any help is much appreciated!

I do have another IWeb08 question, or perhaps, two. The IWeb08 tutorial says that you can place a picture out of a text box with place holders. Easy enough, but it says to place a picture inside a text box, it has to be in the format of a "floating picture," and text will wrap automatically around the picture.
I went to help and typed in the phrase, but it said, no such phrase.
1. How do you put a picture inside a text box so it floats around. If I go to insert and 'choose," the picture appears easily enough, but text remains behind it, instead of wrapping around. The only solution was to tap, tap, tap the text both up and down until it cleared from behind the picture, but of course, that meant no text wrapping around the picture and large spaces on either side of the picture. Adequate, but not very professional. I am sure it is very easy.
Also, how do you find something in Iweb Help? Does it have to be in the form of a question?
Thanks.

To keep iWeb 08 from adjusting your photos, go into preferences and where it says Image Import, uncheck the box that says "Optimize images on import". It fixes the problem completely.
I really like iWeb 08! Just be sure to back-up your Domain.sites file before you start. The ability to change themes is great as is the new full screen slide shows and the Mac Gallery that allows you to upload photos direct from your iPhone or web to a Web Gallery. A Dot Mac account is needed to really enjoy all the potential of iWeb and iLife 08.

Your review is far too generous. Personal Domains is a vapor feature that only works for some users, some of the time. I've tried to set it up twice and in both cases it has failed to work. I've e-mailed Apple .Mac support about the problem, and received no response. Apple was still glad to take money for the service however, even though they couldn't even be bothered with a e-mail response. There is no serious detailed support or troubleshooting information on Apple's website either. The feature appears to be marketing fluff.

I really like iWeb 08, however it has some other problems for some of the viewers that went to my site. 1. Photos are automatically resized or you can uncheck optimize photos. The problem is, people and family that still have "dial up" for one reason or another, can't get the photo pages. And web gallery is impossible for them. I know that I can create a folder and resize all of them, but that's work. It needs the ability to optimize photos smaller. Loading a photo page with many graphics is painful. Even with DSL it is a little slow to load. 2. Web gallery should have a global button available in the Navigation Menu. So, if you have distant family that you want to keep in touch with, check to see if it loads for them. Watch the big graphics themes. iWeb is mostly just fine, but it needs a little work.

This is my first year, using iMac or iWeb & ive got to say iWeb has to be the most flexable site builder i've ever used. I noticed you had mentioned if your going into business then iWeb really wouldnt be the way to go. I would have to disagree with ya on that, I have one 10 page website (still in the making) another 8 page to be up in a couple days and two 7 page sites that I was playing around with to get a feel with for how it all works. So far I havent had any problems using iWeb whats so ever (other than I cant seem to figure out how flash works). The setup is just to easy to use, templates are very easy to install, I agree the stock templates suck but its just as easy to make your own site from scratch using iWebs tools. Keep in mind I'm new to iWeb & finding this very simple to use. Compared to dreamweaver, iWeb blows it out of the water. And with the hole domain & using a ftp client, or looking to run a business I wouldnt use .Mac ether just because of the reveiws it has, doesnt look good. Im using go daddy as my host & yummy ftp for my client & everything is running smoothly. Not trying to start a war here, just thought I would give my 2 cents about iWeb. If anything, your reveiw was far from "fluff" as someone said in one of the posts, you can do a-lot of things with iWeb compared to any other site builder out there.

hello,
i like iweb for making an easy fast website. however the site looks great in safari but is jumbled in firefox. Does anyone have a solution to this problem. also to have your domain show up in the url instead of your .mac acct you can go to where you purchased your domain name. for example i called godaddy.com and they did everything for me. it took about 48 hours to activate.
