My last spec question before I pull the trigger on a MacPro
Is is worth the extra bucks to get the Quad Core processor over the dual core?
Will I see a noticeable performance boost over the standard dual core? I'll be using this for Photoshop and FCP. I have nothing to compare to now, since I'm using an old G4 powerbook.

I don't see why you wouldn't see an increase in speed, but at least with FCP, in my opinion, unless the extra speed means more money for you, if you're editing for pay, not sure if the increase in price and speed is really necessary. Speed becomes an issue during file conversions and exports, but if you time it right, you can simply let this stuff happen while you're eating lunch, taking a poop, or whatever. On the other hand, at the last show I was working at, I was getting pretty antsy waiting to convert video files into something FCP would recognize. I guess another way of looking at is get as much power as you can afford.

Photoshop won't benefit from a Quad-Core at all but as chc214 said, some areas of FCP will. Whether or not the benefits are worth the extra cost depends ...
If every second/minute counts, yes it will be worth it. On the other hand, if you're more of a casual user of FCP, I'd say no.

Will you be editing HD or SD? I doubt you'll see much difference with SD.
