Now's a good time to consider the iPhone. Apple, though, seems too slick - no holes. How does it connect?
How do I connect an iPhone to a computer for internet access? My computer wi-fi is not always in range.
Starbucks has wi-fi internet access but I drink coffee at the Waffle House. Airports have wi-fi access but it seems that every airport has a different access plan that requires my credit card info. It's better to have phone connection. I was in seven airports this past month. My current phone always worked but it doesn't connect to my computer.
If I can't connect to the computer, how do I connect my external hard drive or flash drive to the iPhone? It's the data I need to send and receive - not music or video. How do I store maps or driving instructions?
How do I connect an extended battery to the iPhone? I put in some long days on the phone and at other times my phone sits in my briefcase for extended periods of inactivity. My current phone has several battery options and a travel cord.
I need a convergence package. Does the iPhone connect?

I don't think you'll be happy with the iPhone; it's not designed to work the way you want it to work.

When WiFi is not an option you connect through the phone system on something called EDGE. It's not as slow as dial up used to be but not as fast as WiFi but for me it's excellent - I use gmail for both send and receive and can use comcast mail too but on EDGE I can't use smtp.comcast.net for sending so I just use the smtp.gmail.com for sending when I send something from comcast.
btw there is an iPhone forum on macworld - you would be better served to post your questions there instead of this forum.

My mistake posting in the iPod forum. It looks like Griffman answered my question anyway. I'll wait on the iPhone until they connect with Mac notebooks in some kind of overall Mac convergence. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Try the TripChill iPhone travel assistant the next time you travel. Get real-time flight alerts, book hotel and car, view alternate flights, notify friends of travel status, manage your itinerary, and much more.
