Try your credit card company. Some of them cover purchases that are lost/stolen within a period of time.

Those policies typically don't cover theft from vehicles.

Yes, a high deductable screwed me over. My father took the iPhone from me just before the wedding, we went to get it the next day and saw his car was broken into. Do you think I have a chance?

Hopefully you reported its serial number as stolen to the police, Apple, and AT&T, rendering it useless to the thief.
If you had, and if my name was Steve, I'd be happy to credit you the $100 toward another iPhone.

OK, it figures that Apple of COURSE puts restrictions on these credits. I went to buy a $100 iTunes gift card so I can get the FULL value of my money instead of buying something from their website that they charge $100 and only paid $50 for or I could get cheaper elsewhere. But, the credit WILL NOT work for iTunes gift cards.
So, Apple hoses the customers again with the best solution for THEM not us. So, that $100 doesn't hurt them nearly as much by doing that.
Down on Apple again for making me pay $200 more a few months ago and now not even letting me get the full credit! Boo hoo to you Apple!

I can see why that restriction applies. Apple only makes about 30 cents per song so it would be losing more than three times the value of the $100 credit -- almost giving away every iPhone it sold before August. It is wise that Apple gave the offer some time to work out the kinks.

so...those of us that subsequently sold on ebay are screwed! Why should the auction winner get the rebate, I purchased it from Apple!

I can't believe it! We all knew some of the loudest squealers were people who planned to sell their iPhones at a profit on eBay, but I never imagined someone who actually did it would have the gall to complain about not getting the rebate too!

Not sure where your math is making sense. Apple can't lose 3x the value of $100 if it makes a 30 cent profit for each song sold. $100 gift card equates to approximately 100 songs, so 30 cents of profit per song is a profit of $30 to Apple with a cost of $70 to record labels.
Compare that with an item like the iPhone which Apple got a greater than 50% profit on, so the value of the $100 credit is lower using it on items such as hardware than iTunes. Again, the deal is better for them, not US, the ones who paid all the money to start with.

Touche' !! I willingly parted with my money but am of the opinion it was in poor taste two months later to drop the price $200. Simply wanting to maximize my $$. I can buy anything at the Apple store for less than their full RETAIL price on everything, but I cannot buy iTunes $ for less anywhere. So, at least give me that Apple! If you are going to give me $100 credit, let me use it how I want, and not just to your best interest again.

I noticed in small print it says the $100 must be spent on an Apple TV /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

you have no chance what so ever. you need to have an activated phone in order to get your credit. you need to enter in you phone number and serial number, after you do you are sent a text message verifying your phone with a special code. even if you have the serial number you don't have an activated phone which means there is no way for apple to verify you have one with phone service.

LOL... yeah it needs the sales. I sure hope they don't kill the Apple TV. I have every intentions of eventually buying one this Christmas. I still think $299 is too high for that device. Even $199 is pushing it. $150 is more like it for that kind of machine.

"We're sorry, but we can't locate a record of your iPhone"
Maybe because the first one I bought (on June 29) was defective and had to be replaced on June 30. Disappointing

We had the same issue, but in the box with the new iPhone there should be a receipt that says they couldn't repair the old iPhone and it will list the old iPhone's serial number - that will work for the credit.
