After announcing that the UK would get the iPhone on November 9 at a special event on Tuesday in London, Apple said today that it would also launch the iPhone in Germany on the same day. more

The article doesn't say that the iPhone will not be sold through apple.de. It even has its own section on the apple.de site.
Most likely, it will be available on apple.de as well as through t-mobile.

Now that we have a few different prices to compare, I wonder how Canada's price will eventually be calculated:
US 399$ = 408$CAN
UK 269 = 550$CAN
DE 399 = 566$CAN

I wonder about CDN pricing as well... considering our dollar is virtually at par and possibly could exceed the $US.

It's not looking good for Canada.

I wouldn't hold your breath on getting good Canadian pricing. Some of the price disparities are surprising. Most notably, my .Mac subscription has come up for renewal. Whereas the US .Mac subscription costs $99 (US), which is about $105 (CDN), Apple is charging me $140 for my renewal. Something is amiss...

Well, at least the Canadian dollar's up (against the US$ & the Euro), so we'll have to live with the iPod touch at low prices for a while. I agree that it's not looking good for Canada -- our cellphone industry seems to be driven mainly by obstinate fools, so the iPhone doesn't fit their business model (being new, and decidely un-foolish).

Is it really wise to judge what the canadian price might be against european prices that have Value Added Taxes included (not to mention tariffs and shipping costs)?

Something is amiss indeed when the Consumers Association of Canada is telling Canadians to buy luxury cars in the US because it's so much cheaper there. Soaring loonie makes U.S. luxury cars a bargain: consumer group

I didn't mind the wait, expecting a version 2 iPhone with 3G. Now it looks as if Rogers and Apple have dug in. No competition in Canada sux. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Not that way. The two European prices include taxes while the US price does not.
Take the local taxes off the UK (17.5%) and DE (? %) prices and you'll have a clearer indication of the international markup.
But surely the Canadian price is calculated:
Fuel cost for trip over the border to nearest US Apple Store
$399

state tax +
25 mins to unlock to use on Rogers network
= happy Canadian iPhone owner!
