Help! How do you rename your computer? I did the transfer process when I got a new computer (over a year ago), and ever since then, my 17" Portable G4 1.67 GHz computer has been convinced that it is in fact a desktop G4 that runs at 500 MHz! Where the heck do I go to inform my errant computer that it is in fact a lot faster (and smaller) than it persists in thinking it is?

If you click on the "Sharing" pane of System Preferences, you will see a field at the top of the window labeled "Computer Name:". That's where you do it.
Oops, where is it telling you the speed and processor type, in System Profiler? That's a different issue than the name of the computer.

Thanks, you answered my question, and now my computer
happily knows who it is!
I name my computers by my name plus by the
model and speed of my computer, since I have
several of them. (Actually 7, but only 3 up and
connected & running currently.) It can get
confusing on the network, if they all think they're the same
computer because they were all initialized by the
hard drive from a previous computer.
Thanks again!
