I am looking at picking up an older G4 tower that has a legitimate copy of CS2 installed on it. The seller (its on an online classifieds place) said that it is not a ripped copy of CS2 and that he will include the serials for the software but that he will not include the original CDs. I was wondering, if I have the original serial numbers for CS2, can I buy CS3 and upgrade the CS2 to CS3 and then, if I so desired, uninstall it from the G4 and install it on my MacBook as CS3. Do I need the original CS2 CDs to install it on another computer before I can upgrade it to CS3?Hopefully I didn't confuse anyone...

Honestly - I think you are asking for trouble here. There are a lot of people that sell stuff online - claiming legitimacy, but upon inspection/queries, it is clear it is not. This really smacks of that and I would counsel you to not go down this road.If you buy used software, or new from an online source that is not a regular retail channel, I would insist on original disks and serial numbers, etc. and be clear about whether or not the software is an upgrade or full version. At the least, ask if the seller has registered this software and/or is prepared to go through the process of license transfer.I have bought a number of titles through ebay and other online sell sites. There is legitimate software to be found, but typically I have had to wade through a lot that wasn't to find the stuff that was. And just because someone is claiming to have a legitimate serial number doesn't mean it is so.
