This ability to upgrade must or should have the competitors running scared, perhaps more than anything else about the iPhone.

In my experience, it's not a unique ability, but may be unusual. The manual for one of my past phones (remember manuals?) specifically suggested doing a particular dance now and then in case updates were ready (over over-the-air delivery). I never did. And I can't lay hands on the manual at the moment.
And how many others have had that ability but hidden (not the first, which was only a phone--no data).

Treo's have always had firmware updates.. I think a few of them may have included some new software apps.

iFuntastic 3.0.3 will not work after the update. My phone took the upgrade sucessfully only erasing my ringtones... but everything else works... However, iFuntastic 3.0.3 will not re-install the ringtones.

When the phone is asleep and I double-click the Home button, it doesn't take me to my Phone Favorites...instead, I get an iTunes controller, even though I've used the General settings to set the Home button to go to Phone Favs, even if iTunes in playing.
The double-click works when the phone is awake, but not asleep. Anyone else notice this?

Note that there is also a 1.1.1 update out for the iPod touch. All that's noted are "bug fixes". I didn't notice anything substantial on my (already flawless) week 38 16GB iPod Touch. People with the negative blacks problem are saying that it fixes the problem, but at least one person seems to think that the fix is more of a kludge than a fix. I can't say one way or the other as my iPod touch is flawless/fantastic.

125MB is quite a heavy update, for what it brings.

152 Mb actually. Watch vid detailing updates here:

FYI: iToner no longer works. Ringtones created with iToner no longer show up in the Ringtones menu but still play when assigned contact calls. I'm sure they're already working on a fix. Also - you cannot sync iToner with the iPhone as of this moment. Just bought a song from the wifi store and synced in iTunes. Works great - super fast.

My iToner ringtones, however, are still there. Bummer on the 3rd party apps I lost, but no biggie... most of them were novelties anyway.

Ahh, I mispoke in my previous post... after the update, my Settings>Sounds ringtone section still showed my custom iToner ringtone selected. When I went into the ringtone menu, however, it was no longer there and it defaulted back to Marimba!

One other oddity -- the update broke iToner ringtones and 3rd party apps, which was to be expected, but it left behind a few things installed by 3rd party apps, such as themes. For example, I had downloaded and installed extra OS X-themed wallpapers. My custom wallpaper is still in place.

Oh well, all of my 3rd party apps were KIA. At least the upgrade went smoothly- no "bricking" as some would suggest.
I guess I'll ditch the 3rd party apps since it seems that Apple will eventually get around to opening up (or creating) more functions. Honestly, a simple TextEdit app would go a looooong way on this phone...
The update was worth it just for the ability to shut down the Edge function- I was tired of all the little ping charges I was accruing in Europe!

I guess mail is still crippled with no global inbox and still can't use DUN, no to-do list, no memos. Sigh.. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
