Can the iPhone display the home screen icons in alphabetical order rather than randomly scattered? Can users hide unwanted icons such as Stocks, Weather, YouTube, etc?

I guess mail is still crippled with no global inbox and still can't use DUN, no to-do list, no memos. Sigh.. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I solved the global inBox dilemma by forwarding all of my mail to a free G-Mail account. My desktop still checks the original account boxes, but the iPhone checks the gMail account, which now catches about 7 different accounts for me.
The best thing is gmail's spam filter- I rarely get spam on the iPhone now. Also, whenever I send mail from the phone, I get a copy of that sent letter on my desktop that I file under sent mail.

Well, that's one way to do it, but certainly not ideal. Thanks.

Were you that stupid to not back up your phone before you did the update?
I had a hack on mine, so what I did was I took my computer "offline" and connected the iPhone and did a full "Sync" to back up all my information and latest changes. This protected my data and would have yours too if you had done this.

Does iTunes back up ALL data on the iPhone including notes, application settings, device settings, email accounts, web browser bookmarks, browser history, call history, and everything else that does not fall under the calendar or contacts?

Clever Mr. Jobs. Lots of things updated but not mentioned. Like throwing out my Garageband made ringtones. Failed to mention that? I buy your software, I buy your technology. I make my own ringtones and you punish me for buying and supporting your products. So I have to BUY ringtones too? I'll keep the few you give me and keep my other 99 cents.

So what I want to know is, if you JUST installed AppTap, if you DID NOT unlock the phone, should you be okay with the update? I am in such fear of bricking this thing. Apple stores say to do a complete restore before updating, but they cannot guarantee that the restore will wipe it clean. I have done that once, but again, I would freak the hell out if I bricked my precious.

I think the reason GarageBand songs aren't allowed as ringtones is because you could take advantage of it by importing any mp3 of a song as the "jingle" track of a new podcast file, and then export to iTunes and make a ringtone out of it. Apple has to make sure to cover all their bases as they have to do business with record labels and the RIAA. I'm sure they'd love to give away free ringtones cause it would be one more great reason to get an iPhone, but unfortunately the people they do business with would never allow it.

so far i'm pretty disappointed in this update. first it threw an error and said i had to restore my phone, then itunes crashed twice trying to do that. finally restored the phone and had to sit there and load all my songs back on. then had to sit there and re-read all my emails because they were all showing up as unread (after re-downloading them of course). lost my notes, lost some settings, lost the camera pictures.
and now, stability is greatly reduced. i had never had the ipod function crash until now and it crashed about 10 times just today. safari crashed way more than usual as well, but i will simply not tolerate the ipod crashing like that- i never had that problem with my ipod video.
this is all running a completely unmodded iphone 8gig synced to a new imac running 10.4.10 and all software up to date. i even had the iphone complete a sync (is that not "backing up"?) before installing the firmware update to the iphone. what a bunch of crap.

Dan-
Just wondering if new battery tests are being done after this update?. Do you think the numbers will change?

The update increases the internal speaker and ear piece speaker volume, both were very low.

Well i have a question about this update.
I did honestly try to mod my phone to get the themes stuff on it. But the jailbreak always failed and nothing every went through. I decided I didn't want to risk breaking my phone so I just restored my phone just incase.
I"m still afraid to do the update. Considering the update has been bricking unhacked and locked phones. So should I risk it? or keep waiting to see if the update is pulled and "re-evaluated"? maybe they will release a new one that doesn't brike unmodded, locked phones?
