I could care less about Rhapsody. I hope TiVo offers AAC support someday so my TiVo box can play all my iTunes music, not just the MP3's.

I agree that the Series 3 is very good (well, except for pixelation, skips, and dropped audio at times in HD reception...well maybe I want to believe that it's better than it is!)
However, TiVo Desktop is a joke. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
I have 20,000 tracks ripped from my own CDs to my Mac's iTunes library that I can't play because TiVo doesn't support Apple Lossless (or AAC) while SlingBox and others do support it. Of course it's been promised since forever, so maybe I'll just wait...
And photo sharing is so aggravating because it can't be combined with music, it takes my 5 megapixel images, sets the TV to 720p, shrinks the photos smaller even than that, and displays what's left...to silence. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Instead, they try to hook another money-sucking hose to Rhapsody.
Bah!

TiVO executives have no clue. I was going to buy the TiVO HD if they ever have a plan to let me upgrade my TiVO 2's lifetime subscription for $200. But now I don't have to wonder if they ever do it.
I hear there's better DVRs coming, that will make TiVO look old and tired. But that doesn't need to happen. Partnering with Rhapsody and MTV using WM DRM means they did it to themselves!
Tata TiVo. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You blame Tivo? You'll get what you deserve. Enjoy your Tivo wannabe, "DVR". Tivo is the best and original.
If Apple would invest in them this kind of deal with Rhapsody wouldn't be necessary. I won't give up my Tivo for anything. I'm considering dumping DirecTV after 15 years with them because they're forcing customers who want these features to use their knock-off, Tivo ripoff if they want a full HD lineup.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out. Tivo rules.

I think that's a bit harsh. If you're a Rhapsody fan, this is a nice option to have. Subscription services aren't necessarily bad; depending on the context, they can actually be very appealing, as I noted about a year ago.

Maybe you've already seen it, but I stated earlier that TiVo can play unprotected AAC files (even Apple Lossless) if you install LAME. See the following link for directions if you need it:
Installing LAME

And if you have an Intel-based Mac, you might need to see this as well:

LAME for Intel Macs
Do that and unprotected AAC files will play fine on your TiVo.

Assuming you have a Mac, you can install LAME and that will allow the TiVo to play AAC files. It will not allow it to play DRM'ed iTunes music of course (since that is something no non-Apple product can do).

Doesn't LAME convert all your AAC files to MP3? I don't want to convert my music library.

The short answer is no. The TiVo Desktop software uses LAME to convert the AAC file to mp3 on the fly but the original file remains unaltered. LAME isn't going to convert all of your AAC files to mp3 files.

Well, maybe a bit harsh, but look at the list of my actual communications and entertainment bills: home phone, cell phones for the family, digital cable, cable internet access, Tivo subscription, .Mac, NetFlix.
Now look at all the "little" leaks of cash, actual and potential: caller ID, cell phone extra charges (extra minutes, text messaging, photos, email, ring-tones, music downloads, subscription games and services), digital cable pay per view, Tivo/Amazon movie purchases/rentals, iTunes purchases, (let's not even mention purchasing CDs!), all the other download services like Amazon mp3 and of course Rhapsody...
My point is that taken as a whole, I feel like a patient in a hospital where all the tubes are draining my precious bodily fluids! Worse, many of the drains make the seller bundles of cash but cost them next to nothing (caller ID is a great example here).
So when I see Tivo favor an arrangement with Rhapsody over giving my Tivo access to my already paid-for AAC and lossless music, I feel a little bit taken to the cleaners.
(sorry for all the mixed metaphors ;-)

I knew about it but:
    1) Why do I have to be the one who does this? I looked at the instructions once, but the whole prospect seemed a bit...er...lame. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Tivo should handle AAC/lossless in a way that's transparent to me.
    2) Why convert from lossless to mp3? That kind of defeats my purpose in ripping my CDs lossless in the first place.
