Lawyers filed a class action lawsuit against Apple and AT&T seeking $1.2 billion in damages because the iPhone is locked to AT&T’s wireless network. The suit also notes that Apple will not allow unauthorized applications on the iPhone. more

The stupidity goes on. There is little to be said about these lawyers and the plaintiffs that hasn't been said about syphilis...

Too bad, this is going to make those lawyers lose a little sleep:

Incompetent Hacks Blamed For iBricks
By Rob Beschizza October 10, 2007 | 7:02:30 AMCategories: iPhone Hacks
Amid a war of words between iPhone hackers, one has been removed from the development channel and a new group has formed independently of the core team. The new group, calling itself the iPhone "Elite" Team, claims that iUnlock and AnySIM contained critical flaws which resulted in users' handsets being bricked when updated.
"No, it wasn't Apple's fault. Rather than figure out how to fix this themselves, the iPhone Dev Team would rather work on jailbreaking the new 1.1.1 and keep accepting your donations. We want this fixed -- we want them to take responsibility for their bunk code.
Introducing itself as the bearers of the 1.1.1 jailbreak, the Elite team makes a point of not asking for donations and not micromanaging its community. The split appears to be the result of strategic and personal differences: Hacker Zibri's unceremonious removal from the iPhone Develop Group's IRC channel combined with the technical claims regarding the poor code found in outstanding hacks.
Growth and success in the face of a powerful foe has its downside. This is, perhaps, a standard volunteer-development tempest in a teacup. If it's more a substantial schism, it could make life harder for the everyday user who just wants his or her hacks ready before bedtime. Wither thou goest, haxxors?

The hackers including Erica Sadun made it clear it wasn't Apple's fault. In the end, though, we are all going to pay for this chicanery as it costs Apple and ATT a fortune to defend themselves from these sub-primates. One can only hope that the rissoles bringing these suits are unceremoniously unplugged--
I wish Apple would send out a call to arms for those of us who are generally happy with the experience to act as their witnesses. The problem with these suits is that they make potential investors worry, especially when the numbers get into the billions. I mean, can you imagine where have come to? When pissants like these creeps, demand a BILLION dollars because they can't have (feet stamping sound) what they want, when they want it and how they want it-- contracts be damned!!! This is so over the top.
And then there are all the little people-- whining mignons who clap with glee at the thought-- ney, salivate at the thought that somehow they might get to use T-Mobile. WOW!!! it almost makes your you-know-what tingle... Oh, and roam, oh, ever so free in those vast green fields of yonder. PUKE!
There's more-- for the missed chance of having malfunctioning games-- GAMES, mind you- not the latest cure for cancer -- on the iPhone, there are those who would love to see Apple and ATT clobbered financially, even if the companies are actually hurt by it. Talk about not seeing beyond your navel.
The "I, me, my, mine" generation, unleashed. Frightening, really...

Thank goodness the legal system allows for some recourse to Apple's recent actions. All I want is my own music as ringtones I don't want to unlock my SIM card.
I hope they win this class-action suit.

Let me get this straight:
1) Buy an iPhone which everyone knows only works with AT&T.
2) Hack it, changing its software so that it works with other than AT&T.
3) Complain about lack of 3rd party applications.
4) Then mix hacked software with an Apple software update.
5) Phone is bricked.
6) Hire lawyer and blame Apple because your homebrew mix of software no longer works.
Its one thing to buy a product and complain that it does not do what it was advertised to do. Something else to invent "rights" that it should do more than it was advertised to do.
Sure, buy an iPhone and hack it to run on another carrier, or put Linux on it, or whatever you want. Thats fine. But when you make modifications you have no justification to cry when your mods are not compatible with Apple's free updates. Even if Apple deliberately breaks your hacks.
One day the iPhone will be "open". But for now there is only so much Apple can do and still maintain any kind of quality of service. Lesser management has ruined great products and great companies by trying to bite off more than they can chew promising everything to everyone.

Made even more aggro because the IDIOTS-- IDIOTS-- who upgraded were warned in the days prior and then in bold print, right up front in the iTunes update-- that, if you have modified your phone this update may render the iPhone unusable--- and STILL they went ahead!!! It makes "what part of NO don't you understand" look like an Einsteinian ponderable with infinitely impossible conclusions.
May the judges in these cases demand the death penalty for the losers-- nah, too good for them. Solitary for 100 years!

Why are there so many toxic waste dumps in New Jersey and so many lawyers in Washington DC?
New Jersey got first choice.
The Devil approaches a young lawyer at a bar convention and tells him "if you give me the souls of your wife, your children, and your parents, brothers, and sisters, I'll make you a full partner in your law firm."
The young lawyer thinks for a second and then asks "sooo, what's the catch?"
What do you call it when you have a dozen lawyers buried up to their necks in sand?
Not enough sand.
Why won't sharks eat lawyers?
Professional courtesy.
Why ISN'T the joke of "what do you call 20,000 lawyers at the bottom of the sea? A good start" truly a good start? Because the laywers would then represent all the fish in a class action lawsuit.
What's the difference between a lawyer and a catfish?
One is a slimy, bottom dwelling, scum sucker. The other is a fish.
Thank yoouuu! I'll be here all night!

Apple & AT&T is wrong on this. I hope they lose BIG! They are doing what MS does. No, they are worse. Manufacturers may not be able to install linux under their MS contracts (probably can nowadays) but if I install it, that's MY RIGHT. Just like you should be able to install whatever you want on the iPhone. It's yours! not apples, not AT&Ts (especially since they are not subsidized)
What if GM said they're car will only run on BP gas, but you want to use Marathon because you feel it's better gas, your car works just fine and then one day over OnStar they send out an update to not allow any other brand but they one they require! Intentionally Broken on purpose AFTER it worked just fine. This is exactly what apple is doing.
At least the Macs can install linux and it's software if you want.

If you know before the fact that a house is on fire, are still going to enter it ? Probably not.
If ya don`t like what Apple and AT&T are selling, DON`T BUY IT ! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I can picture the pout and hear the feet stamping. Some folks don't deserve an iPhone.

So you don't believe in consumer rights to be innovative with what they purchase and OWN?
