I think there's a program glitch in Illustrator 10 folks.

I'm trying to do a PREVIEW of a print job before sending it to the printer. In all other programs it will allow you to do that, as we all know.

In Illustrator 10, when you go:

Print >> Print Preview

... normally it should pop-up a window showing the file you are about to print, and how it will look printed.

In the case of Illustrator 10, when you do that, it just prints! No preview ... I don't get it. I'm going to try some other roundabout approaches here, but as far as the preview button working properly, it doesn't.

Any other experiences with printing in Illustrator 10?

I'm still waiting for a reply ... and it's been over six months now!

Seriously, hasn't anyone else encountered not being able to PREVIEW a print file in Illustrator 10 for OS X?

I'm running OS X (10.1.5) just FYI, and another thing, is I can't seem to update Illustrator to 10.1.2 either!

Love to hear some feedback from other Illustrator 10 users ... thanks!

This is gonna sound like a dumb answer, but it's true...

All that happens when you "preview" in OS X apps is OS X makes a PDF of it, and shoves it into the Preview app.

Guess what, Illustrator 10 format is already PDF to start with. So skip the Print dialog, drag your Illustrator file to the Preview and there you are.

"and another thing, is I can't seem to update Illustrator to 10.1.2 either!"

Hmm? Illustrator is only at 10.0.3
Have you tried to update to this?

Thanks for the feedback folks ... it was my bad about the Illustrator update. I meant updating to 10.0.3, which I downloaded from the Apple site. I can't get it to work!

As for the Illustrator "preview" issue, I appreciate your workaround, but that doesn't solve the issue that it doesn't work properly. In fact, it's weird. When I click on "preview", it actually prints instead!

If I were to click "print" as you normally would, I would get all this jibberish on my HP1200 PS printer, and I would have to cancel the job.

Anyone have any idea what's up with that?

You might want to ask over at adobeforums.com about your questions. I know I've seen threads there about updaters that don't work. Sometimes their engineers respond. Much more likely than over here in the generic Mac board.
