Whoa ... The retail version is the same price as usual at $129 but the Education price is $116!
Didn't the previous edu versions cost something like $79? Seems Apple is getting stingy with the college discounts. I could understand when they dropped the edu price on iPods because they dropped the price for everyone but that's not the case here.
Ok, I admit it ... Apple is GREEDY! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yeah, the previous education price has been $69. I don't know what's up with this, but that is a significant increase in price! In fact, if I bought it at Amazon.com it would only be $5 more, since in California I pay sales tax. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
But at least this way I'm likely to get it on the 25th. I live so close to Apple that even standard shipping ends up overnight, and they tend to ship two days before the release date so that most people's shipment gets there in release day.

I can't believe that we still have no ability to add more columns to List View other than Date Created, Date Modified, Kind, Size, Version, Comments, Label. We have all this metadata and it's only used for searching. That's pathetic. Think about it, iTunes and iPhoto are more powerful file managers than the Finder. I can easily assign "Birthday" to my photos in iPhoto but I can't assign "Project X" to my files in the Finder except for manually typing it in the Comments field of Get Info, which is useless for any application that uses Keywords, and is a very Windows-like way of doing things - manually typing after clicking on each file. Ironically, I can't say Windows-like in this regard because Vista has superior support for metadata in Explorer and even in the Save dialog with the ability to assign star ratings and Keywords (like iPhoto).
And if Sort In Groups is good enough for Spotlight, why not the Finder too?
And I am going to vomit if Apple doesn't give me the ability to assign a single view to all my folders on my hard drive. This is a feature from the 80s that we still don't have. And I can't set up a default view for new folders! Ugh.
But the Dock is 3D-looking and there is a space wallpaper included! Oh boy!

Jim Dalyrmple says:
"If you purchased a Mac beginning October 1, 2007, you are entitled to receive a copy of Leopard for the shipping cost of $9.95. From today forward, a copy of Leopard should be included either pre-installed or as a disk in the package."
Am I missing something?
From this day forward, a copy of Leopard will be included in WHAT package?

That's odd, our Apple Store for Education website is showing the educational price as $69 for Leopard.

If you go to the INSTITUTIONAL store, it's still $69. But unless you ARE the university ...you won't be getting it for that. Faculty/Staff/Students now show up as $116. Which is what I pre-ordered mine for.
Guess Apple is seeing that a huge percentage of their customers are still carrying books around. It was fun while it lasted. (I saw it coming with the last two versions of iLife getting more and more expensive)

Leopard was delayed because they needed time to finish existing features, not because they needed time to add even more features. It's a safe bet that Leopard will be exactly as demoed, and nothing more.
Still, I'm hoping that Apple has made some tweaks to the GUI based on developer feedbacklike being able to adjust the translucency of the menu bar! If not, it says here that apps/hacks that drop a solid white band behind the menu bar will be the #1 Leopard-related download.

Don't you want to hold off on the purchase of a new MacBook until you see if the MacBook is updated on October 26th? Some "rumor" sites are "predicting" an update with the release of Leopard, and you might as well wait to see what happens... Of course, we are close enough to Friday the 26th that you could return your "old" MacBook if you get one today.
