Those aluminum iMacs with the (gasp) glass screens? If anybody read this forum back in August, you'll remember how unmercifully these same iMacs were excoriated, and how the (very) few of us who were foolhardy enough to say we liked them had our aes flamed up one side and down the other! Of course, all that Apple-bashing seems tame now compared with the firestorm over lowering their prices or failing to support every hack that came along for the iPhone, but obviously all the hatred and venom that has been spewed here has brought the company to its knees!

As an Apple customer, all year I was anticipating the purchase of a new top-of-the-line desktop Mac Pro. However, specs always seemed to be lacking. This month I took delivery of a 24" iMac with 4GB RAM and 750GB HD. It's a nice machine but I am hopeful by February Apple will impress everyone (mostly me) with a multi-processor Mac Pro sans the bottlenecks.Best desktop sales in more than three years. As an Apple shareholder, "Way to go AAPL!"

It's all about perspective. Every new product launch brings out a bunch of people who criticize and a bunch of people who praise. There's no way to ever gauge from the forums whether a product will sell well to the general public.

I think it's premature to say that the iPod has reached saturation. For one thing, I know a lot of people that are in their second or third iPod, so this saturation thing is not what is happening. Watch those numbers during the Xmas season, if they do falter, you have a point, but somehow, I think the new iPods will do just fine.
About the unlocking. I think that the most interested people are the once that simply can't get the iPhone in their country. I have heard a lot of friends and relatives interested in unlocking, but not because they don't like AT&T, but mainly because you can't get an iPhone in Mexico yet. The faster Apple moves in to these markets, the faster it will mitigate the unlocking trend, at least for this segment of the market.

Alright Apple. Way to go.
If Apple's share price stays at $183 tomorrow, I will have made $130 dollars from my 12 Apple shares in under a week! All I can say now is keep it up!!!!!!
Imagine the lucky few who bought Apple shares 10 years ago when they were in the teens.

My dad had 13,000 shares of Apple at $15 in 2000 or 2001, bought on my advice.
He was forced to sell due to severe money troubles in 2003.
That would be 5 ----ing million dollars right now. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I still remember (and I'm not that old) when people spoke about Apple like it was dead and buried. Back then it didn't look like the mac had much of a future. I confess that at that stage I didn't see much future for apple. Now apple is going from strength to strength;
"and we couldn't be happier" /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Sadly not having apple shares means I don't get to bask in the financial joy, but this means a lot more than that. It means that apple will be there to continue to innovate, and to continue to provide a counterpoint to the computing monoculture that has swept the world.
These results also do another thing, they demonstrate once and for all that while the name has changed with the drop of computers from the name, the mac remains a key part of apple. I for one am glad of that (as I type on my SR MBP 2.2Ghz).

Worked for me. It convinced me to replace my beloved G4 iMac, and now I love this one.
When I bought that G4 in 2002, I was the only person I knew with a Mac. Now one brother has one, another has two, a third is thinking about it, two guys at work will buy in when the checkbook shapes up, the guys in the shop have iPods, and even our CAD consultant has a 17" MBP running XP with Fusion and Windows-only CAD software. He earns his living in Windows and he has a Mac!
I worried I was nuts when I bought stock at $85. Hah!

It's easy to criticize the critics. But there's really no way of knowing how many more of the new iMacs would have been sold if there was a non-glare screen option. The same goes for the "compact" Apple wireless keyboard vis a vie the standard wireless configuration Apple no longer offers. We won't know until and unless Apple provides those options once again.
As for Mac desktop sales, they are still more than 900,000 units behind the peak year of 2000. The real growth has been in laptop sales. This trend is reflected on the PC side now, too. I expect this trend will continue as processor performance, along with hard drive capacity, continue to improve. While performance in desktop computers has grown substantially as well, most people don't need all that headroom in their everyday work (and play). Nevertheless, I wouldn't trade my new Mac Pro for any laptop, thank you very much. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
