I'm envious of you folks in the US. I've been hearing for years that MYOB is a great product, but I can't buy it here in Canada.
For some bizarre reason MYOB sold its Canadian business to Intuit a few years back with the result that my choices are QuickBooks, QuickBooks and QuickBooks.

I'm still using an old version of AccountEdge V2 here in Toronto and it does everything I need. Another alternative I've been considering is Moneydance - http://www.cognito.co.nz/ - which will work with GST, etc. as well. Plus, the vendir responded quickly when I had some specific questions about GIFI codes. When AccountEdge finally croaks, I'll be looking at Moneydance and/or LUCA seriously.

Finally, FirstEdge, like AccountEdge, requires you to activate every new company file you create, instead of just letting you register the program once. While this isnt a problem if you only have one business, if youre running several small businesses, this could end up being a painand an extra expense if you have more than five companies.
Does this mean that the software is limited to the activation of 5 companies (or computers) or that the sum total of fees associated with each activation equals the cost of software alternatives?

Not only do you need to activate each company file, but you must re-activate it every year, or it reverts to read-only status. If MYOB ever goes out of business, you're SOL.

I think it's really irresponsible for the MacWorld reviewer to omit the fact that none of MYOB's products are currently Leopard-compatible. The notion that MYOB is Mac-friendly is extremely misleading. Go to their own support threads for the real story.

I know that it can seem frustrating if third parties don't have a copy of their software ready to go the day Leopard is released, but I think it is fair to cut some vendors a little slack and give them at least a few weeks to try and update for Leopard compatibility. This review was written and edited before Leopard was released, and we're working really hard to identify Leopard-compatible software. But, most vendors will need a little time to get their new versions out to the public.

There is another drawback to this program: It is becoming commonplace for small businenesses to give their accountants the computer file containing all their financial information. However there are so few accounting firms that support the MYOB files you end up having to print everything out for them and manually enter any adjustments the accountant gives you. So before making this purchase I recommend users see if any local accountants can read MYOB files. It's primariy for this reason I'm putting my copy up on eBay.

If I correctly understand this comment, this rip-off is an absolute, total, complete deal-breaker. There are enough unavoidable risks in lifewe don't need to subject ourselves to additional risks and hassles such as blatantly engineered obsolescence. Not only do you need to activate each company file, but you must re-activate it every year, or it reverts to read-only status. If MYOB ever goes out of business, you're SOL.
What would MacWorld say if MS pulled this with Office?
