Yeah, look at all those future innovations that were just pouring out of Microsoft. How about that Smart-Home of his?
And I highly doubt that "Microsoft is pleased to have worked out a way to comply with the European Commissions antitrust ruling".

"Bill Gates focused largely on future innovations to come out of Microsoft"
Icopier - a new and innovative feature of the next version of Windows code named "The One OS". Icopier allows Windows to constantly monitor the internet seeking new MacOS features and cloning them into Windows on the fly.
Imocker - another new feature that automatically posts FUD to Mac web sites all over the globe. It also implants bots on web servers worldwide that will constantly troll Mac Forums flaming anyone who posts negative responses to it's troll posts.
Ispamer - a great new feature that checks all incoming email to see if it's from a .Mac address. If it is Ispamer automatically signs up the address for a never ending barrage of spam.
And of course Iassassin - this wonderful feature detects wether any Apple software (iTunes, Safari) or hardware (iPod, iPhone) is installed or connected to the PC and promptly sabotages it.

Also a new motto - The One OS - One OS to rule them all, One OS to find them, One OS to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

>future growth at Microsoft will be driven in part by advances in emerging >economies, particularly in Brazil, Russia, India and China, said Steve Ballmer,
As they get chased out of the "old" markets into others with less restriction on crushing the opposition (health), lies (lies) and bribing your way to the top (bribing your way to the top), just like the tobacco companies who're now marketing to pre-teens in africa, teens in asia and girls in latin america.

...Adieu. It looks like there may be no second act for Mr. Gates in technology. It would be interesting if he did come back and form a new start up, however I do not think that he will do so as he will be concentrating most of his time on the "Bill and Melinda Gates" foundation managing and spending his and Mr. Buffett's money, and some of his time at Microsoft in the background.
In terms of tenaciousness I pose that Mr. Gates holds no candle to Mr. Jobs, who after being fired from Apple Computer Inc. in 1985 went on to form Next, bought Pixar along the way, had his second coming back to Apple Computer Inc. (now Apple, Inc.), where Next rose like the Phoenix from the ashes in the incarnation that is OS X and he helped add more valuation to Apple, Inc. than anyone else in it's history, drove Pixar to mega success where it was sold to Disney and now he is the single largest stockholder in Disney, Inc. Much to be learned from Mr. Jobs, the chief of which is never give up, hold fast and keep moving. Oh and Mr. Job's much maligned "Reality Distortion Field" (aka "RDF") is perhaps something from which we all can learn.

Microsoft probably was not "pleased" with the European Commissions original antitrust ruling, however I am sure that if they have worked out a way to satisfy the ruling that Microsoft considers "win-win" or minimally "neutral-neutral" they are pleased to do so and move forward. After all Microsoft, Inc. still does business in Europe and the antitrust ruling is an impediment to that business. Better for them to hammer out an acceptable deal, comply, and move on.
