Sales of the XBox 360 are dropping. Sales of the Playstation 3 are going up.

Can you reference your source of sales information? Everything I've seen is that PS3 sales are at best flat, while the 360 had a September spike with the release of Halo 3 (and of course the Wii is well in the lead).
Which leads to Sony's biggest problem... out of 200 titles, what is the compelling PS3 exclusive? I can't think of one.

Sony noted that more than 200 titles have been release for PS3 since it launched.
What 200 titles? Is this correct? Gamespot shows about 140 released so far, and many of those are in Japan. If there are 200 games available we only see a handful in the states. My local BestBuy has a pathetic display of PS3 games. Hopefully this will be changing in the near future.

It possible that Sony is also counting Downloaded only games. Like LocoRoco Cocoreccho! and others.

Sony this week mention that sales of the PS3 was almost double with the introduction of the new $399 40GB PS3.

Overpriced??? 300 less than a similarly speck'd XBox 360's...

Huh? Can you explain this? The 360 Pro is what now $349? The PS3 is $399. How is the PS3 $300 cheaper? Ok the Elite is what $449? and the PS3 80 is $499. It seems the 360 is still priced cheaper.
However I do have a PS3 and I despite what is being said here about the 360 having a better library, that is very subjective. The 360 does have a better library if you are into Mature and kill everything games. If you want more of a variety the PS3 may be a better choice. Personally my favorite system right now is still the PS2 for its sheer selection of outstanding games. The Wii is fun, but really it is a game cube 1.5 with a new control scheme. It is not part of the HD generation.

I'm presuming that they're also counting PS3 games you can download through the PlayStation Network, and in defense of Sony, a lot of those are ridiculous amounts of fun.

I counted those too when doing my research. Of course Japan gets a huge amount of titles that never make their way to the states or the rest of the world, so this could be part of it.

How about this instead:
Xbox 360 Elite system, includes 120 GB HD: $449
Wireless adapter: $99
Total: $548
The HD-DVD drive is optional for a reason. You don't need it to play games on the 360. And this is assuming you actually need to connect it wirelessly instead of wired. And it includes an Xbox Live membership and a headset, too. And I shouldn't have to point out that the Elite's HD is bigger than the PS3's.
And then there's the whole issue of the game library. A console is worthless without games to play on it, and the PS3's library is weak while the 360's library is very strong.

Peter, I don't agree. The strengths of the PS3 are shared by the 360, which has a vastly better library in addition to having Xbox Live and being cheaper.

As iBeetle pointed out, if you equip an Xbox comparably -- for example, with an HD drive -- the PS3 is less expensive.
In other words, this is like the Dell/Mac thing -- you can get a Dell for a lot less money, but it won't have all the features of the Mac; which is "cheaper" thus depends on what you want/need /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Xaqtly, you're spending a lot of energy trying to convince people that the Xbox 360 is a better value -- that, in fact, ANYTHING is a better value than a PS3. Give it a rest, please.

Normally I would agree with you and in the past I have gotten every console because I'm not a platform bigot, believe it or not. In fact, my favorite console is probably the PS2.
That being said, I'm also not a fan of throwing money away. There is only one compelling reason to buy a PS3, and that is to have a cheap-ish blu-ray player. As a game console, it fails. It's not because of the hardware which is pretty powerful - it's because it's priced too high and its game library is pathetic.

I gotta disagree with your disagreement. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
At first, yes -- my PS3 collected dust as I played away on my 360. The PS3 was fired up for the occasional Blu-Ray movie and a game or two, while the 360 garnered the lion's share of play time.
Over time, though, the PS3 has become my primary machine. At first it was out of necessity -- my 360 died on me (the infamous red lights) 3 times. It's ironic, but my Xbox has 'failed' me as a game console much more than the PS3 ever has.
Yeah, the 360 has a stronger library, but the PS3 has caught up quite nicely. While Xbox Live is arguably better than PSN, Xbox Live costs $$$. PSN has comparable games (Stardust HD. vs. Geometry Wars), and most of the AAA titles for the 360 are also available for the PS3. And now the PS3 has some of its own compelling exclusive titles.
As a console with built-in blu-ray and wi-fi, free PSN and a comparable game library, the PS3 more than holds its own againt the 360. Then again, I have all 3 current-gen consoles and have no axe to grind.

I already talk about the game library, but the PS3 it also a Blu-ray player and I have a friend that is not a player and still buy the PS3 for the movies and online access from the living room.

iBeetle chose the most expensive configuration possible to exaggerate the price difference. Look a couple posts up and you'll see where I posted a more realistic comparison. And keep in mind that the PS3 NEEDS a blu-ray drive to play games, the 360 does not NEED an HD-DVD drive to play games. That's why the HD-DVD drive is optional on the 360.

Honestly I take offense at that. Everybody's opinion is ok except mine, huh? There are more people in this thread expending more energy than I am trying to prove me wrong, so why aren't you telling them to give it a rest? You want to lock the thread, then do it. But don't give me crap for stating my opinion just like anybody else here.

Here you're basically making my argument for me, and the failure rate of the 360 is irrelevant to the comparative worth of the systems - mostly because MS has fixed that problem already, but also because it has nothing to do with the quality of the games or the cost of the system.

This goes both ways. The 360 has more good exclusive titles than the PS3 ( a LOT more), mainly because so many of the PS3 games that were supposed to be system sellers turned out to be terrible. Heavenly Sword is mediocre, and that's what Sony is promoting the hardest right now. Anybody remember how Lair was supposed to turn the gaming world on its ear? This is what I'm talking about.
As I said before, I think the only title worth anything on the PS3 (as far as exclusives) is Ratchet and Clank Future. The multi-platform titles you can get on the 360, the other PS3 exclusives are not very good, and their reviews support that. I'm sure people reading this won't believe me, but I'm still not platform biased. If and when the PS3 starts getting some really good quality exclusive titles on it, I'll gladly fork over for one. Ratchet and Clank is tempting me as it is. But that much money for one game doesn't really make much sense to me.
