Because some of them are bringing up valid criticisms, while yours is basically that the Xbox 360 is 4W3S0M3 while the PS3 SUXX0RZ.

XBox Wireless Network Adapter $99.99
XBox HD DVD player $179.99
Total $808.97
Playstation 3 with built in 80GB (-vs- 20GB) hard drive, wireless networking, and Blu-ray Disc player

If you add in the cost of Xbox Live, the cost goes up even more. Online is free for Playstation 3.

as far as the ps3 not having any great games that are exclusive, Motor-storm and Resistance are great games and any one who says differently hasn't played them. also I don't have Xbox360, but what makes Xbox Live so great that you have to pay for it. I mean PSN works for my and MY online needs to find an opponent for madden or a match for Warhawk, or RToFM. what does Xbox Live do for you that is different or better than PSN. And a next-gen console that won't play next-gen discs (out of the box) is not forward thinking. yes most games fit onto 1 dvd now, but what about next year (I remember thinking that CD-ROM's would always be enough because the 3.5" floppies they replaced held 1.4 MB and a CD was 650MB) and already some games for Xbox360 are on multiple DVD's. the way I see it is this Microsoft is a great SOFTWARE company, but has now idea how to make great HARDWARE. (see the zune)

Cheap XBox 360 (the Arcade edition) does not have backward compatibly and this is a good thing.

The 256MB memory card with the Arcade edition -- lacked from the Core edition -- may be enough for a few [original] XBOX titles to be played.

What 200 titles?

I'm presuming that they're also counting PS3 games you can download through the PlayStation Network, and in defense of Sony, a lot of those are ridiculous amounts of fun.

What about XBOX Live Arcade? A plenty number of titles including trials and occasional "freebies". Plus downloaded [addtional] content and, of course, paid arcade games.

If you add in the cost of Xbox Live, the cost goes up even more. Online is free for Playstation 3.

But M$ -- I'm by no means a fanboi -- has really fined tuned XBL and the XBLM ( including the XBLA ) and it's significantly better than Sony's current offering. XBL Silver membership is free.
By the way, the XBOX 360 Pro ( Premium ) has a HDD. The 20GB HDD add-on is $100 ( MSRP ) and the 120GB add-on being $180 ( MSRP ). Using Newegg.com...It comes out to be ~$120 more for the Elite HD-DVD Wi-Fi. That dang overpriced Wi-FI adapter really hurts the comparison but must really help M$' pockets. Of course, the Elite has 40GB more of storage. So, pretty close to even.
P.S. I still consider my Wii the most enjoyable console.

As iBeetle pointed out, if you equip an Xbox comparably -- for example, with an HD drive -- the PS3 is less expensive.

iBeetle chose the most expensive configuration possible to exaggerate the price difference. Look a couple posts up and you'll see where I posted a more realistic comparison.

You quoted the first part of my comment, but ignored the second /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Yes, you can get a less-expensive, and quite functional, Xbox. No argument there. But just like Macs vs. budget Dells, the Xbox is cheaper only if you don't want/need all the features provided by the PS3. My point was simply that saying "Xbox is cheaper" is misleading. It can be cheaper. It can also be more expensive.

P.S. I own a Wii /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Oh I see. So my criticisms aren't valid? Despite the fact that I've spelled them out in great detail, and they can be backed up by checking any review site? Right now, Peter, you are sounding more like a fanboy than anybody else in this thread. You won't even admit that the PS3's library is lacking compared to the Xbox, and that is one of my biggest complaints about the PS3.
But sure, feel free to take it out on me, since I dared to have an opinion contrary to your own. Also feel free to check up on my arguments to see if they have merit, rather than dismissing them out of hand. Go ahead, look and see how many PS3 exclusive titles have a 9 rating or better on as many review sites as you want, then do the same thing for the Xbox 360.
Then come back and tell me my criticisms aren't valid.

Ahh Got ya. However you don't need the $179 HD if you buy the elite. I was looking at it from a purely game playing point of view. They don't have any 360 games on HDDVD so this is not necessary. But yeah if you add the $99 for the wireless option it is a bit more for a gamer.

The different between the Xbox 360 library vs the PS3 have more to do with the fact that the Xbox 360 it on it 2 year of live vs 1 year for the PS3. As you said there are some 9 rating games for the PS3 and more coming; check next week new game "Uncharted: Drake's Fortune".

I have to say that MS did this right (except for the charging for it part). XBox Live is so much nicer in interface, community and every way then the PS Network. However, Sony is constantly improving the experience with new firmware updates that add new features every month or two. I don't think they will ever get the cool features of 360 like Achievements and truly integrated UI for Online gaming though. I think most people that have played the 360 and the PS3 online would have to agree that the 360 experience is better.

While agree that they should have perhaps thought it through a bit more, remember that the 360 came out a full year before the PS3. I don't think at that time, it was feasible to include an HDDVD drive in the 360, it would have been cost prohibitive.
That said there is nothing stopping them now from revising the 360 again, to include an HDDVD drive built-in to the 360. But I still don't think it is necessary as the 360 was designed first and foremost as a game system. There are no 360 games on HDDVD and I don't think it is necessary, at this time.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't trade my PS3 for anything, actually the opposite, I did sell my elite to buy a PS3, before the elite price drop and after the PS3 60GB Price Drop. So I got it at the right time. Now that the 360 Pro systems are cheaper and include two games, I may pick one up again, as the 360 really is a fun system too.

MacWorld, I love you, always have. But casting aside the intelligent forum discussions about the PS3 for one moment...
Ummm...does anyone smell a paid advertorial here? Why is this on Macworld? It's unbiased, straightforward, not entirely newsworthy, etc...

Sure you do. The Elite ships with the same DVD drive as the other Xbox 360s. HD DVD is still a separate add-on.

Xaqtly, you seem intent on having an argument here, despite the fact that I started this thread by noting that I decided a while ago that this fight wasn't worth having, and I got all three systems. I play games on the Mac and on Windows too, as a matter of fact.
Life's too short to play favorites.
In other words, only one of us seems to have an axe to grind here, and it ain't me, skippy.
Fanboy? Pot, meet kettle.

Sorry I meant HD as in Hard Drive, not HD as in HDDVD. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
The elite has the 120GB HD

Hi
I'm going to use the excuse I had only a few minutes at work and I tried to squeeze a reply in. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Anywho... It comes out to be ~$215 more for the Elite HD-DVD Wi-Fi Adapter. So, the $100 ( MSRP ) Wi-Fi is still a huge deal breaker and my only real complaint of the 360. I know it was the first to be released but seeing as M$ had huge online plans for it... The Wii approach is great with having Wi-Fi built-in and Ethernet an add-on. How many people have their routers near their TV? Anywho... We can say the included HDMI cable ( 360 ) offsets the card reader ( PS3 ) and we'll say the extra 40GB is worth ~$65 in inflated market MSRP. I almost forgot about the headset ( ~$20 ). So, it's still ~$130 extra. Oh well...I couldn't care less about the HD-DVD add-on and don't care about the price difference that much [but do recognize it]. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I don't plan on purchasing anything dealing with HD-DVD or Blu-ray until one dominates.
