Seagate Hard Drives Models ST96812AS and ST98823AS

The Seagate Hard Drive (model ST98823AS) on my MacBook (purchased in May 2006) has failed. I am finding evidence online that others are also experiencing failure of these two Seagate models manufactured in hina.
I am curious as to how common this problem is among MacBook and MacBook Pro users?

Luckily for you, being out of warranty, Seagate's usually have a 3 or 5-year warranty.
