A print css will be in place shortly. This will allow you to print a page and have it styled like a print page. No need for a dedicated print version or print link.

Is it just me, or are the forums slower?

Okay I have a confession. I sent an email today, to mention things I didn't like & things that I did. then I remembered the last time the page was re-designed (about 4 years ago) boy I hated it. In about a week, I loved it. I thought all the changes worked and that I just needed time with it. This time, I think is has been about 2 hours, and my concerns are gone. The only thing I would like to see (from the old layout) are someway to highlight some stories. In BOLD letters or in RED.

hate the new redesign. liked it better when stories were listed by the day. the stories are the focus for me, not that ads and other stuff. it seems like the links to the stories are too small and kind of buried. they should be a little more drawn out and set in their own space instead of being wedged inbetween ads and the section where you pat yourselves on the back for the new redeisgn.

also, hate the fact that i don't see where to click to see previous days stories. if you have a busy news day stories from earlier in the day will be pushed off the main page and there doesn't seem to be a place to click for stories that happened earlier that day or earlier that week.

maccentral.com has been my home page for several years now. i visit that page every day multiple times a day. looks like i need to start looking for another home page.

I'm sorry, but I find it terribly bad looking. Print is so tiny it hurts.
There is too much information all over the page. Too much blinking and ads.
Layout is not really clear as you look at it: one mixes content with ads easily.
And this is a 19'' monitor I'm looking at.
Please, get back to the drawing board again and do some serious revamping of the site's layout because I don't think I'll be coming back again much if I have to "fight" with the page to find what is content and what is just "noise".
I know ads pay bills but at least make it less noisy.

I have to agree with Nimbus and others about all the teething pains. The site does now seem to bury the stories somewhere in the middle rather than having them out in the open like the old site. Finding the older stories is a chore and once you get the list of them up, they're not easily scanned through. There really needs to be some division between each day, rather than forcing people to look at a column of dates. It needs a lot more work before it becomes as usable as the old site. Then again, it can be argued that this sort of mirrors the magazine, which had a lot more content back in the 1980s and which has gone to less content, more ads and more splashy graphics. Also had the same problem as MorrisTheCat. Why all of a sudden require logging in by email address rather than user name? That makes no sense. We're identified by user names in our posts and they're generally shorter and easier to remember and type than email addresses.

I know it's nice to revamp the site every once in a while but I don't like the fact that the articles still seem to take second place to the ads. I like that you've moved the articles up to the top of the page, but they should be on the left next to the margin. I found it difficult to keep my attention on reading the article names due to the medium blue color, which tends to make them look not as important as they used to be. My eyes kept bouncing out of the page due to this, distracted by the rest of the busyness of the design and ads. I heartily recommend turning the article headlines back to black for easier readability. I wish I was more positive about the new layout, but like a lot of people who've commented, I prefer the old design for readability. The articles have to come FIRST in the design. It's why I come to the site every day, not to look at the ads.

I never used the RSS feed for your site much before now.
Your sites re-design with it's small type and larger ads now makes RSS the default viewer, for me at least.

I prefer the look and feel of the previous format. It was easier to view the latest articles.

So far...not liking it. I've never understood the need to totally change a site such as has been done here. It's possible to do gradual changes to improve and evolve the site without jerking the entire site around like this.
The color scheme is ok, the layout is WAY too ad-filled. Forget the 'ads run the site' argument. I'm aware that without ads the site goes away because the magazine sales aren't going to be enough to support the site. But for them to dominate your screen when you first come in? The ad panel on the right of the front page is bigger than the little headline panel in the middle! If I were presented this from a printed newspaper, I'd be finding another paper that kept the ads off the front page!

A lot of layout principles of mine go back to my newspaper days. I know that 'Web 2.0' changes a lot of things, but I don't believe they eliminate the principles of good layout.

And another thing: "The Apple, Mac, iPod, and iPhone Experts?" Isn't it time to change the title to "AppleWorld" now? I've got an iPod and it's loaded to the gills. I don't need any more information on how to use my iPod. And Mac news is being shuffled around iPhone news and Apple corporate news...not to mention news about cellphones in general. "MacWorld"??? I don't think so...

I think I like the new format, but geez, is it just me, or is all the print very small? Maybe it's simply time to invest in some glasses! (Insert  here!)

I know I can increase the browser font size, but then the layout starts to suffer badly. Maybe MW could add a font increase icon to the page to allow us old codgers to set the page font size. Another idea would be to give us a font preference setting for viewing various areas of the site.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

Cheers!

I cannot paste a piece of text unless I cancel pop-up window blocking??? Very intrusive, annoying and unnecessary...

I agree. And the fonts are fuzzy in Firefox.
