For those of you that think the font is too small, Command + will increase your font size for both FireFox and Safari. Most websites use a font too small, sticking with a standard resolution of 1024 x 768. When viewed on a monitor with that resolution, the font looks fine. The problem is, most monitors are much larger, so the font will appear smaller. I have to increase the font size for most websites. Not a big deal, and easier to read.

That wasn't the point of my post or what I implied. When you say that you are back, it implies somehow that you were away. Which they weren't.

Perhaps those 5 minutes at midnight when they switched servers :-)
But got your intention.

... all of which resonates with my first impression: if this was a new site, I wouldn't look again ... but because I've been reading daily for years I'll come back and check (but not daily, so I've taken Macworld off my Safari bookmark bar).
There are some nice new details and web 2.0 tech but overwhelmed by clutter ... the experience is like clicking on Macworld and being redirected to the Dell online store: the home page is so unfocused it looks like you have nothing to say.
Sorry to be so critical and hope you fix it!
Cheers

Thanks for summing up :-)
What really annoys me is that there is hardly any positive feedback (like with the beta, too) and nobody at MW seems to care. Me and others wrote longer comments on what is wrong and why. Those posts stayed for about 3 days, now they are gone. No discussions, no reaction from MW but some minor tweaks, no nothing. The harsh critics should have told MW to take down the beta, do a redesign of the redesign and have an other beta. They seem to let us just eat it and don't care.
And don't forget, there are some positive changes, like the instant preview of posts within the forum and overall better responsiveness, but this gets overshadowed by general design issues which make the site useless.
MW, please listen. We care your site. It used to be a valuable companion, that's why we leave our comments here.

Looks like the corporate media wet-dream is a reality at the new Macworld, for you are rapidly approaching 100% advertisement, 0% content. Fire the writers, for they have become redundant; hire more marketers and keep peppering your pages with epilepsy inducing flash ads, please.

Hi
I'll agree that the site isn't perfect but what's wrong with trying to spice things up and keep things up to date? Give the Macworld staff a little slack. A little time and effort and things could be fined tune. A masterpiece isn't created in a week. It's a work in progress.
Macworld...Maybe you can shut these ad whiners up by offering a less ad or ad-free design at a monthly or annual price. :p
I joined the MW forums to help others and occasionally get help myself. As long as I can do that with a few perks, that's all I ask.

Jason,
I don't know if this has been mentioned, but I had signed in, then Quit Safari-without logging out, logged out of my computer, logged back in and I was still "signed" into the forum.
I don't know if this is what you want but now I'll hit "Log Out".
Peter

It is way to cluttered with stuff. i click on the MacCentral link to get the little news of the days and now it's all lost in the page of adds and columns and little pics of products. I'm not old but the text is really small. but i guess you need to make it small to fit in all the stuff you are putting on the page.
For a page about the latest headlines you only get 15 or so headlines before you have to click something.
This message board needs some information designers to do some rework to it as well.

Judging from the large number of people with very low post numbers, many are having the same problem. This new forum demands logging in with email addresses rather than user names -- something I've never seen before in any other forum. And that's stupid for so many reasons. Email addresses change. People often don't bother to change their profiles when they do. So when we come back after a few years of using just a user ID, we don't necessarily remember what email address we last used here. All in all, it's just another sign that this site was redesigned without any consideration of what is best for the end user. It's all for the benefit of the company. That's a sure way to lose readers, which is not a good way to stay in business.

The login option when we re-launched was by e-mail only, but it was changed almost immediately to e-mail or use rname. And you're correct. Several users had trouble remembering their original e-mail address used to create their account.
