I do think that it will ultimately be helpful for the community. I hope that we are all mature enough not to be begging for points, but grateful to get them as a reward for helping. I'm open to revisiting the policy if it does become a major disturbance on the forums.

That's reassuring.

On a different tack, is there any way of setting post times to the 24h system? I don't see an option in "Your Stuff". AM/PM seems kind of antequated.

Sorry, that one I can't help with. I can't find anything in the user preferences or admin interface to set it like that. I can put it on the list of things to investigate, but I hope that you understand that in the grand scheme of bugs and fixes to the site, it is a lower priority.

Looks Nice, but its a bit too much to figure out navigating. Sometimes too much is simply that TOO MUCH. Once you click onto a stroy its a task to figure out where you came from without using teh back button. But for most they probably thinks its the greatest yet

It's okay but don't think I'll be spending as much time on the site as before. It's not the site - it's all these newbies that ask the dumbest questions. You should have a switcher site for all of them.

Thanks kellie. :-)

Also, I just realised that I can quote from posts by clicking on the speech balloon icon in the editor.

And another thing:

The default behavior of opting IN to e-mail notifications is just plain wrong!

If you were not able to determine our preferences from before, the default should be all e-mail notifications OFF. They are misleading anyways -- replies in forums don't necessarily mean someone is actually replying to you. If you read to the end of all of the messages it APPEARS (and it may really be) that the only way to add your post is to reply to an earlier one (often it is most convenient to reply to the last one.)

I couldn't log in as my old self so I re-created me as Tuburan. About the website It looks good but doesn't seem as snappy and functional as the old one. This is my 2nd post but I could not see my 1st post. Guess it's time to leave the macworld forums . . .

What are you screening all of our posts? What is the delay in getting it up on your website?
Why are the new posts at the bottom instead of the top???

I've noticed a few places where the forum layout breaks. (Tested first in Safari 3.0.4 on 10.5.1, all pictures are from Safari as well)

If you look at http://www.macworld....4/2007/12/.html
and go to despeaux's fourth comment, you'll see the layout break. (Occurs in Firefox 2.0.0.11)

At your own profile page, you see a section devoted to your private messages on the right and the bold text for Latest Private Messages overlaps with the image icon for it. (Occurs in Firefox 2.0.0.11)

Also if you go to http://forums.macworld.com/tags
The "All Communites" list overlaps with the bold text Community (Occurs in Firefox 2.0.0.11 but not to the same extent, the y is only slightly covered in Community)

Images that are too large will break the layout, as this one probably will.
for example, at http://forums.macwor...rt=15&tstart=15 on the 5th post down, the image breaks the layout. (Occurs in Firefox 2.0.0.11)

http://lonetco.com/i/mw/4.png

When you go to the Private Messages section of Your Stuff and go to the Address Book it comes out all odd looking. (Occurs in Firefox 2.0.0.11)

This picture is rather large so instead of breaking more layouts here, it's posted here:
Image 5

When at the History, Discussions, People, or Tags pages the top part of the page's title has the image icon behind the title (like the Latest Private Messages error above, this also occurs in Firefox 2.0.0.11)

As a side issue, there is a print link that we can use to print out forum conversations but that does not appear to work in Safari 3.0.4 but it does work in Firefox 2.0.0.11

Yes. Images break the layout. So they've been disabled.

Thanks for pointing out the others. we'll get to them.
