I have heard that you can reset the processor. Check apple's website for intructions on how to do that.

If you've already done a clean install, I would try resetting your pram. To do this, shutdown the computer, if it's a laptop, make sure it's plugged in then turn it on again and immediately after you turn it on hold down (all at the same time) the command-option-p-r keys on the keyboard (that's 4 keys - the command key is the apple or clover leaf key). Keep them pressed until you hear a chime and then let them go and allow the machine to boot up normally. If your machine runs normally after this, you may need to replace the pram battery (usually $10 from radio shack) so that these problem don't keep cropping up. If the battery is dead or dying, you may have to reset the pram each time you boot from power off to avoid the problems until you replace the battery.

If this doesn't help with the problem, I would suspect a memory problem. In fact, you should run the hardware diagnostics before you reset the pram just to rule out some hw issue. You should have a hardware diagnostic cd that came with your machine when you bought it or you can download one of the freebies tools like techtool. Run the diagnostics and see what that tells you. If you don't have those programs, you can check your ram by removing (while popwer is off) ram sticks and testing the machine operation on one stick at a time to see if the problems follow one of your memory sticks.

Otherwise, of the "fixable" things, I'd next check the integrity of the hd - do you have access to a usb/fw hd that you can use to boot from? Use that and see if everything works ok.

Best wishes.
