I just noticed that the BETA icon is gone. Has Macworld reached a final draft?

I really like this implementation. The top tabs are easy to follow, and the colors are good. I especially like being able to navigate through the forum with the Browse button. This was spotty with the last design.

Unlike previous versions of the site, we plan to continually upgrade and improve this version, rather than leaving it to die on the vine for years and then throw it away and replace it with a new site. So the goal is to never be "final," always be improving. We've got a list a mile long and you'll be seeing more of those changes over the course of the year...

But our designer felt the time for BETA was over, and I think that's a fine call. With a few exceptions that are still being worked on, the site is functional. But there's plenty more to do and we are far from satisfied.

Kudos on the new version. It's definitely a big step in the right direction, and is far more user-friendly than the last. Also, the visual references to Apple's site are nice.

The overall graphic design, however, is still surprising for a site of your caliber. This has baffled me ever since you started the process. You've justified the new site with a number of explanations and I agree with all of them! They all make sense. However, what I don't understand is why you chose a graphic designer whose skills are markedly below Macworld's otherwise high standards. A lot of the problems seem to boil down to that. I would figure if anyone knew good people, it would be you. I apologize if this post seems rude, but this is the one part that seems baffling. Some of the visual problems that still disrupt the site are the equivalent of grade-school-level grammar mistakes that would never cross your desk from one of your writers.

Nonetheless, the new version is much improved, and a much better conduit between you and us. I appreciate all your good work!

Regards,

Fluffers

Jason,
I believe the option you have at the bottom of the posts "Go to original post",

I think, if there are multiple pages it takes you to the TOP of the page which includes the original post.

If there is 1 page it takes you to the original post but not to the TOP.

It's no big deal but, but going to the TOP including the original post, allows more actions without having to make extra moves.

Thats it,

Peter :)

Well, I don't hire our company's web designers.

However, I would suggest that your opinion of our designer's skills are just that ? your opinion. Everyone's got one, as the saying goes. And tastes differ.

Generally I find the work that our web design team does to be quite good. Though sometimes they make missteps, they more than make up for it (in my opinion) with their good, original ideas and lack of fear in trying new things.

It's the work of our design staff, who is listening to all the feedback they receive in this forum, as well as from the editors and business types at Macworld. They deserve all the credit, not just the blame.

Hi Albertr --

The best way to quickly move to another forum area when you are viewing a thread is to use the "Browse" drop down menu. It's at the top, just under the ad, above the bread crumb trail. If you click it, a menu will drop down and you can look at the available forums there, and click on the one you want to go to. You'll have to expand the category (Hardware & Software, for example) to see all of the forums contained in that. Just click the + button to the left of the name to expand it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "photography". There is a "Create" forum as well as a "digital photos" forum under Mac Topics.

Thank you. The forum is getting better. Not as good as the old one but slowly getting there.
