What is the reason that Yahoo! PageBuilder won't load under any browser in Mac OS X?
If it is running for someone, could you point me in the right direction as to what I need to tweak to get this working?
I used to be able to get PageBuilder to load in OS 9 (for a young relative of mine with a little web page at Geocities, who doesn't even know enough code to try the HTML editor or table builder) but since I moved to OS X (I started with 10.0 and am now at 10.2.3) it just refuses to load. I always get a login error saying something failed to initialize.
If there's a plugin that will make this work (I have IE 5.2 and Chimera 0.6) please let me know what that is.
Thanks to anyone who knows anything about this.

Looks like no one anywhere I've asked knows anything about this. Isn't someone curious just to see this java applet try to run in a Mac OS X browser? Anyone with an understanding of java who can explain to me what it is about Apple's version of java that causes the PageBuilder app not to run?

The problem is not with Apple's implementation of Java. I've written dozens of Java applications in OS X and never had a problem. The problem seems to lie with the web browser's implementation of Apple's implementation of Java (confused yet?). If you try loading Java applets in various web browsers you will find that some applets will work in one browser, while other applets will only work in another one. However, Yahoo Java applets don't seem to work in any OS X browsers reliably. However, Chimera seems to be the first to be able to run them at all (sometimes they work and sometimes they don't, which is what you expect from software in beta testing). Perhaps this will all change when Apple releases Java 1.4.1 (which is currently available as a Developer Preview), but I doubt it. There is one solution, but in my mind it's not very glamorus and not acceptable. Internet Explorer for OS 9 does a great job of running Java applets. If you still have OS 9 installed, you can run it through classic just fine. It's either that or use Virtual PC, which isn't a real solution either since it's so slow. The only thing you can do if you don't want to run classic is just wait for a more compliant web browser to be released. I doubt that will happen any time soon considering that Chimera is months away from final release and the way MS likes to drag it's heels when it comes to Mac software.
If you like, Chimera is available here.

Thanks for the explanation, Parsec. Believe it or not, I completely forgot you could run IE for OS 9 under Classic! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Thanks for steering me in the right direction.
