Quicken on the iPhone sounds pretty good no? I had Quicken on my Newton. Had it on my Palms. That was via Land Ware, or Landware, whatever they were/are. Now it will be available for my iPhone - albeit as an online program hosted on Inuit's very own servers for a nominal fee of $3 per month.
I have mixed feelings about this. I'm not too worried about my finances getting hacked into or anything. I just don't like using the web as a portal for programs I want to maintain locally. I'm not all into the "computing as a utility" concept just yet, like Nick Carr would like to think we're headed. I don't doubt it, I just don't like it. But this seems to be where we are headed.
A way I could see myself going along with this would be if Intuit included this feature in the price of the application. Think about. Quicken maintains guaranteed maintenance for 3 years right? Keeps people from buying the new version every year. But if the new version of Quicken were to include this year's worth of usage for the iPhone, I think more people would upgrade yearly instead of every other year or worse.
Currently, I use both Quicken and Moneydance. Mainly Moneydance because of the cross platform capabilities. I let Quicken update my account online without any input form me. Just to keep it current while I use Moneydance. This could sway me to use Quicken as my main financial manager instead. I'll have to wait and see how it all plays out.
