I'm running the latest version of Leopard on a PowerMac G5 and am having some serious issues.
The biggest issue is networking with a Windows PC running Vista Ultimate. In Tiger, I was able to easily share files, and internet connection, and a printer with the PC via an ethernet connection but Leopard has made networking more difficult and it seems to stop working randomly for no reasons (without changing any preferences on either computer). For example right now the network isn't functioning at all. I can't share files and neither computer is recognizing the other. Leopard won't let me enter a workgroup name for the Mac. I enter a workgroup name and then it erases it when I click OK. This is extremely frustrating. While Vista sometimes recognizes the Mac and is able to connect to the Mac's internet connection, the PC never shows up in Leopard's sidebar. When I try to access Leopard through Vista, I am prompted to enter a name and password. When I do this, I get an error saying they are not valid.
Another unrelated issue with Leopard is that I often get really long shutdown/restart times (up to 5 minutes). In Tiger, this process was always really fast but no longer. What's strange is that there seems to be no consistency with the problem. Sometimes Leopard shuts down as fast as Tiger did and others, it sits on my desktop background window for 4 minutes, then the screen goes black and doesn't actually completely shut down after that for another minute or so.
While Leopard seems like a solid upgrade overall, I've been greatly disappointed with a few big problems. Based on other internet posts, I know I am not alone in experiencing either of these problems. It's hard to imagine how Apple released Leopard without realizing or fixing these issues. What's worse is that Apple still hasn't fixed either of them yet.
If anyone has any recommendations on how to get my network back up and running properly, that would be greatly appreciated.
