I am having a lot of trouble hooking up my verizon yahoo email accoun to my mac mail application. Can someone walk me through this step by step? I am running panther if that is of any importance. Thanks:)

Do you actual pay extra for the advanced Yahoo email service? If not, it is a web browser only email service - you can't use mail or any email client, since free yahoo mail is not POP nor IMAP.

Your YAHOO mail will work fine with safari, firefox, camino - whichever web browser you want to use. You just cannot use a standalone email client to read it.

For .mac, you would have to go to Apple's web site and sign up for .mac. They have instructions on how to do that, and how to set it up in mail. Personally, if all you want/need is email, I think .mac is a poor choice (price wise).

Who is your ISP? Don't they provide you with an email account? Every ISP I've ever had (dial-up included, back in the day) at least provided a POP email account. IMAP is becoming more common nowadays. And if so, your ISP should have the information you need (incoming and outgoing server names, security settings and so forth).

There are also lots of for-fee and free email services out there. Or, you could register a domain with a hosting company for a few dollars a month (I pay about $5/month for mine) and have a couple of hundred gigabytes of online storage and IMAP mail using your own domain.
