Hello,

I have, after 20 years of using PCs, DOS and Windows, made the leap and bought a new iMac and am spending my Christmas holiday attempting to learn as much as I can about the fantastic iLife suite - iMovie in particular.

I have some movies that were taken on a Canon MV-20 digital camcorder - which takes the digital tape cassettes. Normally, I just plug the camcorder into the TV to watch any movies that we have taken, but I would like to transfer them to the iMac and edit them using iMovie.

I can't figure out how to do the actual transfer - I thought I would find the start of the movie, press 'play' on the camcorder and then some sort of 'record' function in iMovie - but I can't figure this bit out. I am sure it can be done, but I don't know how ..

Many thanks,
DazJ

Does your videocam have firewire?
I finally found the specs on your videocam.
It does have IEEE-1394 aka Firewire so I'm assuming you are up and running by now importing all your video tapes into iMovie with captions, music and credits ....???

Yes - it does have a firewire port. The camcorder didn't come with that cable, so have just ordered one (4-pin to 6-pin). Once this has arrived, I'll give the transferring a go :)

Many thanks,
