From the First Look we published about Bento:
Because Bento leverages some of Leopard?s new features?specifically Core Animation, live linking to iCal data, Time Machine backups, and other Leopard-specific capabilities?it only works on Mac OS X 10.5.

After obtaining a review copy of Bento that I am to present to our user group later this week, I can make a few comments.
Filemaker is not interested in users, they have their own agenda. I emailed the contact person for editorial reviews a week ago and have not had a reply to this point. I had to stumble onto the information I needed after an extensive search.
If you are using Appleworks databases, keep using them. Bento will NOT import Appleworks databases. This argues against Bento joining the iWork lineup since Pages imports Appleworks WP files and Numbers imports Appleworks SS files.
There is no global 'find and replace' function. I have a file with over 2,000 records. Changing one item in each record would be a bit of an exercise!
It IS possible to convert an APW DB by changing all the commas to a unique character, save as a text file, change all the tabs to commas, save as a '.csv' file, and import to Bento. Now to change those unique characters back to commas... ooops, did I mention that I have 2,000 records, each with at least 1 of those 'unique characters' ??? See previous paragraph about global find and replace!
Bottom line: If you are new to databases, go ahead and get started with Bento. If you are an existing APW DB user, wait until Bento fixes those two glaring errors, or until Apple finishes the third leg of the iWork stool with a database of its own. I have been using APW since 1985 and my Apple //c days, and while Pages and Numbers have convinced me to start moving my data, Bento leaves a lot to be desired, and leaves me still using APW 23 years later!
