Chuck said, "MacSpeech has always had a 30-day money back guarantee."
This is NOT true.
I bought iListen from ClubMac.
I had numerous problems and returned it for a refund about three weeks after I bought it.
ClubMac said something like, "Sorry, but MacSpeech only has a 15-day money-back guarantee on this product."
I was S.O.L.
I hope that Dictate is a great product.
I hope that I can use it.
I hope that they get their act together and change their ways.
But for the time being, and after reading Chuck's response -- another lie -- I refuse to believe a word that this guy says.
BUYER BEWARE FOR THERE IS A LIAR IN OUR MIDST.

I can also tell you this, sir - I have never once knowing lied to ANYONE in any public posting I have made. Those who know me well will tell you that I stand by my words.
It seems you are more interested in stirring up trouble than in allowing me to assist you, as I have now asked a total of 3 times! Please email me privately so I can work with you to resolve your issues with MacSpeech.

What a tangled web we weave.
I probably still have the email from ClubMac on an old computer.
Anyone interested to find out the truth, feel free to call ClubMac and ask them about MacSpeech's return policy in 2001, which is when I bought the product initially and tried to return it.
You'll need to find someone who was around in 2001.
Here is ClubMac's phone numbers:
Call 1-800-217-9153 to place your order!
Call 1-800-551-6398 for Customer Service
Call 1-800-854-6227 for Technical Support

1). MacSpeech has always had a 30-day return policy for software purchased from us.
2). MacSpeech has never accepted returns from a customer for software purchased somewhere other than MacSpeech.
3). MacSpeech cannot be held responsible for what a reseller might tell a customer. If you don't like what Club Mac or any other reseller tells you, blame them - not MacSpeech. We do not set our reseller's return policies, nor do we have any control over what they might tell their customers.
4). Every month we receive packages back from vendors. There aren't very many of them, and they could be returned for a variety of reasons (broken headset, missing CD, whatever). We have no way of knowing when those packages might have been originally sold by the reseller - so, as you can see, Club Mac telling you we had a 15 day return policy was just there way of not having to accept a return. We would have no way of knowing about it.
5). I am now pleading for a 4th time to "VitaMan" to please contact me directly so I can assist in resolving any issues he has had with MacSpeech.

I've known Chuck Rogers professionally and personally for over a decade now. We met when he was still working at Apple. He is not a liar...not now..not ever. I take great issue with anyone who says that he is. Chuck is a gentleman of the highest integrity.
Chuck hasn't always been with MacSpeech. But for the time that he has, I credit his association with MacSpeech for making the company one that will always try to do the right thing.
I can verify that:
1) MacSpeech is a very small company that is currently deluged with interest and inquiries due to their new product, MacSpeech Dictate
2) MacSpeech is scrambling to service all of their customers, new and old, and I have no doubt that if folks show some patience that MacSpeech will make everyone happy
3) If you give Chuck a chance, instead of ranting and raving, and show a small amount of patience, he will be true to his word
and finally, 4) I had the opportunity to see MacSpeech Dictate demoed at Macworld Expo. Right out of the box the product appears to be a revelation! Users are seeing better than 98% accuracy with no training. Folks literally were standing with their mouths open in amazement at MWX. I predict that Mac users will be thrilled with this product.
I'll post my impressions from testing the product when I get my copy.

I have not lied to you once. I repeat: we have ALWAYS had a 30-day money back guarantee for anyone who purchased directly from us. We cannot control the policies of our resellers, nor what they say to their customers. I can tell you emphatically that MacSpeech has never had a policy where a reseller could not return product to us after 15 days.
As we can only take your word regarding what Club Mac told you, I would not go as far as say they lied to you. In fact, I never said that. Those were your words. I am not in a position to accuse or defend them. All I can do is respond to your accusations regarding MacSpeech, which are totally unfounded. The fact that you are unwilling to contact me personally and allow me to work things out with you on behalf of MacSpeech leads me to question your credibility in this matter.
I will leave it at this: I have offered to help this person represented by the online nom de plume of "VitaMan" and he has refused to take advantage of my offer. I don't know what else to say, except that I strongly resent the accusation that I knowingly lied or mislead anyone. It is simply unconscionable that I would ever do such a thing.
I am very proud of my reputation within the Macintosh community, sir. While people may not always agree with me, no one who knows me would EVER call me a liar. EVERY representation I have made here is 100% honest and without intent to decieve, and I stand by every word.
Please do not blame MacSpeech because Club Mac would not allow you to return software. It simply is beyond our control to set policy for any of our resellers. We have never attempted to do so and never will.

I apologize for not replying sooner. I just received notice of activity on this thread.
I want to thank you for your reply. I do want to let you know that I contacted USAA (my credit card company) on the same day I posted here (January 17, I believe). I need to contact them to find out what the current status is.
I thank you for referring me to the support team, even though i've not heard from them.
I hope this can be resolved directly.
Thank you again,
Stormy
PS. I will post an update on my blog as soon I hear something.

I believe it was Donald MacCormick from MacSpeech who sent me this in a email when I requested an RMA number 27 days after I had purchased the product from ClubMac, and probably 25 or 26 days after I had actually received the product.
"A RMA request must be made within 10 business days of receipt of the product in accordance with MacSpeech's return policy (noted above.)"
----------------------
The full story is below.
----------------------
I believe Mark Twain said something like, "When a person tells me how honest they are, I always make sure to count my silverware when they leave."
----------------------
Here is the full story.
On Feb 18, 2008 at 7:56 PM, Chuck wrote "Also, MacSpeech has always had a 30-day money back guarantee."
When I said this was NOT true.
He replied, "MacSpeech has ALWAYS had a 30-day money back guarantee."
But then changed his story to, "I repeat: we have ALWAYS had a 30-day money back guarantee for anyone who purchased directly from us."
"I can tell you emphatically that MacSpeech has never had a policy where a reseller could not return product to us after 15 days."
"EVERY representation I have made here is 100% honest and without intent to decieve, and I stand by every word."
"Please do not blame MacSpeech because Club Mac would not allow you to return software. It simply is beyond our control to set policy for any of our resellers. We have never attempted to do so and never will."

"MacSpeech, Inc."
-------------
I found my original notes.
I was wrong.
It was not ClubMac who told me that MacSpeech would only allow products to be returned within 15 days. It was MacSpeech who told me this! And it was not 15 days, it was 10 business days!
Here is what happened.
09/11/2001
- Bought iListen from ClubMac.
- Paid a total of $167.13
10/08/01
- sent email to ClubMac to get an RMA to return iListen
10/08/01
- A guy named Jason from ClubMac called me and said that I needed to contact MacSpeech and return it to them directly.
- Jason's phone number at ClubMac was 1-800-258-2622 x4259
10/08/01
I called MacSpeech and left a message at the phone number that ClubMac gave me -- (603) 626-5111.
The voicemail message at 603-626-5111 said that faxes can be sent to 1-603- 626-5777 fax
10/08/01 4:05 pm
I called MacSpeech Customer Support at 1-603-669-7378 and left message requesting RMA.
10/08/01 5:25 pm
I faxed a letter to MacSpeech at 603-626-5777 fax and requested an RMA number to return the product.
MacSpeech Customer Support at 1-603-669-7378 to request a Return Material Authorization (RMA) #.
Here is the response I received from MacSpeech.
"A RMA request must be made within 10 business days of receipt of the product in accordance with MacSpeech's return policy (noted above.)"
I assume that this was sent via an email from Donald MacCormick at MacSpeech because I also saved his contact information in my notes.

The key here is that you purchased from Club Mac. We have never, ever accepted returns for product purchased from a reseller. Returns for product NOT purchased from MacSpeech fall under the individual policy of the reseller from whom the product was purchased.
Sorry for the confusion in this matter, and that you were misinformed. I have no idea why someone would have told you 10 days - especially for a product purchased from some place other than MacSpeech.

I called ClubMac for an RMA to return iListen, but Jason from ClubMac told me that I had to contact MacSpeech to return the product, which I did!
I contacted MacSpeech!
It was MacSpeech who told me:
"A RMA request must be made within 10 business days of receipt of the product in accordance with MacSpeech's return policy (noted above.)"
