These Apple TV improvements were inevitable. Very cool, but no mention of software upgrades or firmware upgrades for existing Apple TV owners. Does anyone know if we will be able to update older Apple TVs to the new format?
The new feature will be available as a free software update for all Apple TVs.

so you don't have to wait for the DVD to arrive in the mail, or drive to the store to get it... but you have to wait "... within 30 days of their DVD release." Huh?
AppleTV, take #3
AppleTV, take #3
That was probably a concession to the studios to get them all on board.

STILL 720p??????
Well it's pretty damn certain that 1080p is the future.... So this is pretty much shoring up the low-end of today's current standard....
I'm really saddened that Apple's not future-proofing their ideas. Innovation, not just keeping up with the flock. They need to be 2 steps ahead, not coin throw away.
I can rent 1080p Blu-Ray w/ uncompressed 5.1 down the street for $3.99; why would I want to go and spend that same amount for half the quality? So I can say I streamed it from iTunes?
The name ain't selling me; the product has to be there, and right now it's just NOT.

Because it's down the street! Isn't that the main selling point for download rentals? No driving, no returns, no DVD/Blu-Ray player.
Look, 720p is high definition (HD). It may not be the strongest but it's still high definition, especially compared to even 480 DVDs. Considering the large files sizes and being able to stream properly without hiccups or freezes, I'd say 720 will be more than sufficient for your movie viewing needs. It's certainly not "half the quality".
Then again, if it's Blu-Ray you want, then Blu-Ray is what you should get...don't expect an alternative, especially w/ such a new technology.
