Economist.com has a picture of a Microsoft mouse and a 'Yahoo mouse' coming together... but the Yahoo mouse is actually a Macintosh mouse. How dare they?

There would still be a lot of cash left (the deal is 50% cash, 50% stock).

No!

As of Dec 31st, Microsoft had just over $20 billion in cash. A "50% cash, 50% stock" offer of $44.6 billion would totally deplete Microsoft's cash reserves.

So. In two months they'll have another $5.5 billion in operating income. LOL

Microsoft who have, despite hoards of talent and cash, have some of the worst online properties imaginable is now going to manage Yahoo who despite floundering financially of late have some of the most promising. What a nightmare for everyone but the stockholders.

Well I have my gmail account ready to go just in case.
Currently I have Yahoo as my start page. If M$ does buy Yahoo then my start page will be Google.
I just need an alternative for free web hosting since I have Geocities too. Anyone have some ideas?

It's not going to work. The whole Yahoo thing started with the name, and it was free and the "Yahooooooo!" voice was kooky and irreverent or something.
It's not a good fit. Microsoft doesn't "Yahoooo!" and vice versa.

Yahoo does not own AT&T. AT&T has partnered with Yahoo.
They are two separate companies. SBC Acquired AT&T, along with
Ameritech (Midwest) & Bell South.

Hmmm, here's something to think about, most everyone is talking about this as its a done deal, but as mentioned, someone else could throw in a bid, what about Google? They have the most to lose from this deal, and plenty of money, regulators likely would throw fits, but it could get very interesting indeed.

I wonder if this means AT&T also becomes Microsoft? Since SBC, created out of Yahoo, now owns it, which has changed it's name to AT&T since it acquired it. Though I don't see AT&T really wanting to give up Yahoo, with all that means, it would lose it's high speed internet provider, and many customers to go along with it. Unless it has other plans for it's internet services.

Okay so I was incorrect in this statement to a point. SBC used to be part of the original AT&T, when the feds ordered the split up of the "Bells" it was created out of AT&T, Yahoo was created in the light of the web revolution as a search engine to start with but has blown to include many web features, especially since it partnered with SBC and AT&T. SBC purchased AT&T, changed it's name to AT&T, then went on to also purchase back at least some of the other "Baby Bells" to merge everything under it's name again. Still they have a major interest in Yahoo with their partnership in their web offerings. AT&T provides the underlying internet services and Yahoo provides the portal, search engine, and other features for AT&T's ISP's. Still this has to be a major blow for iPhone and Mac users that use AT&T, if that deal between Microsoft and Yahoo happens. What's going to stop Microsoft from making the features of AT&T's Yahoo service unavailable to Apples users? Will AT&T go elsewhere with all they have tied up into Yahoo including a recent "multi-year" deal for Yahoo to continue to provide it with services?:

{quote:title=Yahoo Shareholder Press Release January 29, 2008:}SAN ANTONIO & SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan 29, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), the nation's No. 1 wireless and broadband provider, and Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO), a leading global Internet company, today announced a new multi-year strategic alliance that paves the way for an even richer and more innovative online experience for consumers - whether at home or on the go.{quote}

Just a quick thought.
Isn't it Yahoo who provide the email service that is bundled with the iPhone?
