Apart from Mac OS 8/9, which had greyish menus, every other version of the Mac OS has had brighter-white menus than 10.5.2. So I guess I'm not understanding what's so bad about this improved -- as in, "I can see menu items clearly because they're no longer marred by the show-through of what's behind them" -- menu appearance ;)

Serious question: What was this "direction"? The only thing I saw was a crazy UI that, depending on your choice of Desktop picture, led to a menu bar that was at best nicely tinted and at worst nearly unusable.
That said, if you really want to get the previous behavior back, you can use the same workarounds people were using to get rid of the semi-transparency to get that transparency back.

Ah, that's a very good point; I hadn't noticed that. So I guess we're at about the same level of functionality now -- we can finally sort Dock menus, but we lose the obvious functionality of aliases in those menus. Dang.

How about an express card slot for the MacBook? That's a criticism in just about every review. A lot of folks have talked over the mid-tower. Where's that one? How about an e-sata port for the mini? Ok, I'm the only one on that. How about an unlocked/jailbreak iPhone? That's been mentioned. Oh, you mean software? iMovie '08 is what the people wanted?
The translucent dock works great for me. I have a burning sunrise from my backporch as a desktop and it lights up the dock. I'm glad Apple listens. It gives us something to talk about instead of whining. :-)

Agreed on both counts!
The current 10.5.2 implementation of List Folder choices for Dock folders not allowing the traversal through folder aliases is a poor substitute for Tiger's Docked folders.

I was holding out hope that this would fix these problems, but true to their nature Apple leaves older (2005 PowerMac G5) users in the dust. Just try giving a presentation when your screen is flashing red!

'saved:important AND kind:Python'.
That would be really nice, and not much has to be done to implement the latter feature. And the first, should have already been implemented with Tiger.

What I do not understand is why "smart"folders still cannot be opened withit the open/save dialog box. Also if they just implemented the keyword saved: in spotlight, which does work in open/save dialogs. Then one could simple use the style
saved:ProjectPDF AND name:profile
that would really be nice and simple to implement.

"Apple listens to users..." is a little too ebullient for me.

Well, that was just the headline. In the article itself, it clearly says "sometimes"
Those headline writers should read the story. Clearly the headline should be,
"Frakes demands menu change, Apple sets table" ;-) or
"Frakes changes Jobs" ;-)
We need to get those headline writers in the right mood to attract readers. :-) like
Bit blip blast, Mistake mars menu ;-)
