I like Leopard but then the glitches came. Freeze ups in Safari, the beach ball returned with more frequency. So I begain to use my Vista OS with Boot Camp more and more. Sad to say that I have had less problems with Windows on my Mac.
I am willing to give Leopard another try, but don't let me down Apple. Vista is just a reboot away!

I am using 10.4.11 and Safari 3.0 keeps quitting on me. It seems I have to reset it more and more for it to clear up. But otherwise Tiger is rock solid even on this old G4. Of course it's mature. Give it time and I'm sure once Leopard is mature Apple won't let you down.

What happened to the Apple defenders who dismissed the criticisms and called those people whiners?
Choice is always good. I don't have a clue why anyone would not want the choice to turn a feature on/off. Some people argue that they themselves don't mind the new behavior, and that's fine. But telling someone who hates the new behavior to shut up is ridiculous.
This is one area that Microsoft has consistently been better - choice. Even though Windows is garbage, it does give you a lot more options in regards to turning features on/off. Apple (Jobs?) tends to think that their way is the best way, so you should just stick with that, and they don't give you options. Of course, Mac users can always download a haxie from a 3rd party developer, but we shouldn't have to hack our OS to give us choices that should be there in the first place.
So I agree that this is great news in regards to the Stacks behavior and menu bar transparency.
I will also note that this is the second free update, that I remember, that comes with actual new features versus just bug fixes. 10.4.11 includes Safari 3 for Tiger users.

I am surprised no one has mentioned this yet. After I downloaded and installed 10.4.11 I noticed that the screen saver had updated photos like ipods, iphones, etc. I noticed that the shot of the MacBook shows Leopard with a solid gray bar at the top instead of transparent. And 10.4.11 was released 11/14/07!

::raises hand:::
I don't like the changes, at least in the menus. I was quite happy with the translucent menu bar and menus, and was definitely one who thought the complainers were, in fact, whiners. My first thought upon installing 10.5.2 was, "oh, menu transparency must be OFF by default". Nope, it was ON. You can barely tell the menu bar is transparent, and the menus don't seem transparent AT ALL.
I wish Apple had put in a slider with that checkbox, because I would like to turn the transparency back up to where it was in 10.5.1, and there isn't a way to do that. Apple certainly caved to the whin-... uhm, USERS, while not really leaving much of an option for those of us who LIKED the changes.

I was beginning to fear that Apple was turning into Windows.
While they are far from perfect and need far better customer
support. Particularly from their Apple stores who know as much
about Mac's as my dog Rex. I was very impressed to learn about
the latest update. It looks like Apple are beginning to listen to their
customers. While I don't want to sound to condescending
" Well done " and keep it up.

I don't think choice is always good. I mean you say it's good and you say MS is better at it, but then you say Windows is garbage. Maybe one reason Windows is garbage is because MS is giving users too much choice. :)

I'm having a different experience than reported here. This morning I updated two machines being very careful to verify disks and repair permissions before and after. On the laptop, I used the combo updater. On the desktop, I used Software Updater.
Both machines behave the same with respect to the folder/list display in the dock. Unlike your experience, all I need do is click and hold on a folder and I get the prefs menu, the same as shift-click (also has to be held down). A quick click or shift-click invokes the hierarchical menu.
The Desktop & Screen saver checkbox` appears on the laptop but not on the desktop machine.
Both of these machines have been updated from 10.4 to 10.5 using Migration Assistant. I have a "clean" 10.5.1 install at home and will see if that is different still.
I suppose that I should do the combo update on my desktop to see if I can get access to the Translucent Menu Bar checkbox

Message was edited by: flowney I have now had the opp'ty to update a desktop machine that has never known anything but 10.5 and 10.5.1. Both desktop units are dual quad 3.0 GHz 4 GB RAM units. Both Mac Pros behave the same after the upgrade. Neither can change the translucent menu because there is no checkbox to do so in the Desktop and Screen Saver Prefs. Both behave as described above with respect to bhieraqrchical menus.
