Screen Sharing Leopard with Panther.

I wonder if someone can help figure out how to screen share between Panther and Leopard. I have Chicken of the VNC installed on my iMac which has Mac OS X 10.3 Panther, I would like to use Leopards Screen Sharing.app with Chicken of the VNC on the Panther machine no matter what the IP address of both machines is. I can view my MacBook Pro from my iMac, but I want to also do it the other way (MacBook Pro to iMac). I had it working once but now I can't seem to get the 2 computers to "see" each other. I would like to get it working again and have no problems with either computer.
Any help would be appreciated.

When I use VNC for screen sharing, I just used the preinstalled Apple server. In the Sharing Panel of System Preferences under Panther, there is an option for Remote Desktop (I think that's what it's called). When you download and install Remote Desktop 2.1 more options become available like passwords and the like.
Once you set that up, Chicken of the VNC will find the computer because Apple uses Bonjour (or Rendezous in Panther). Works every time.
With the Leopard machine, you just need to start the Screen Sharing service, and you're good to go.
Hope that helps!

Just discovered this thread so I apologize for resurrecting an old thread.
I'm trying to do the same thing as netdude but can't get it to work. I want to screen share from Leopard to Panther. I have OS 10.5.2 on my macbook and want to control the screen on my old desktop running 10.3.9 (Leopard can't be installed on this desktop because it doesn't meet the specks). I have Remote Desktop enabled on the Panther machine and screen sharing on my macbook but for some reason it won't work. I can see the desktop in the finder sidebar on the macbook and connect to its hard drive but the screen sharing button is not there. What am I doing wrong? Do I need additional software on the desktop like Vine VNC server? Any help appreciated.
Network setup: MacBook C2D OS 10.5.2 connects to network via AEBSn; Desktop running OS 10.3.9 (old PCC) uses an D-Link Ethernet bridge (DWL-810+) to connect to a Graphite AirPort bridged to the AEBSn. All computers see each other via filesharing.
Thanks,
Chris

chrislaf,
I have had success with Chicken of the VNC on my Panther machine while using the Screen Sharing App with Leopard. I can view my Leopard MacBook Pro on my Panther iMac and vice versa, and if you have a Windows machine you can download a VNC server and viewer you can view your Windows machine on your Mac and do the same thing as described earlier and have no hiccups.
Hope this also adds to your information.

Thanks netdude for your reply.
Still haven't got it working yet. I put the vine vnc server on the desktop running Panther and tried to connect from my leopard machine (MacBook) via screen sharing but it doesn't work. I have FileSharing and Remote desktop enabled on the panther machine and screen sharing enabled on the macbook. Screen sharing is working because I can connect to my wife's macbook and our intel imac both running leopard, but not to the machine running Panther (kids machine).
I only want to connect (screen share) one way - Leopard to Panther but it is not working. I have used Chicken of VNC before but now with leopard I shouldn't have to use a separate vnc viewer on the leopard machine if I understand this correctly since the screen sharing app is a vnc viewer.
Any ideas?
TIA

chrislaf,
I have retraced my steps and here's what to do for getting CotVNC working on the Panther machine, open System Preferences, click on Sharing, make sure the Services tab is selected, click on the checkbox next to Apple Remote Desktop to turn it on, you may have to download the ARD Client (Click on the link to the first reply to this post to download it). After you turn it on click on the button labeled Access Privileges and select the option Observe and leave Control and Show when being observed unchecked. Below that, check the options Guests may request permission to control screen and VNC viewers may control with password: type the password you want into the password field, click OK.
After doing all that, start Chicken of the VNC, make sure that the option Use Bonjour has a check mark next to it, otherwise it won't work. On the VNC login screen, if you see the Panther machine in the Servers section, click on it the IP address should appear, type in the password, click on the checkboxes next to Remember Password, View only, and Allow other clients to connect, click on the Connect button and you should be all set to go.
Hope this helps.

Thanks netdude,
Still haven't got it working yet, although I have put it on the back burner because I got busy at work. Will try again this Easter weekend.
I have used Chicken of VNC on Panther to Panther before with success. The difference this time is that I don't want to load and additional software on my Leopard MacBook to screen share. I'm hoping to use the built in screen sharing app. On the Panther mac I have the Vine VNC server. For some reason the screen sharing app can't connect fully to the Panther mac. I know it is communicating somewhat because the Leopard macbook can wake the Panther mac from display sleep but I get nothing on my leopard mac screen to indicate that a share is taking place - can't see the panther screen. I know the network is working because I can connect via filesharing easily and the Leopard mac finds the Panther one (visible in Leopard sidebar) but no screen sharing.
I'll keep plugging away at it.

Chris,
I have reviewed your network setup and I think the reason you are having problems is the fact that you have a dual-bridged network. What I would like you to try and see if it works is to take down the ethernet bridge and the Graphite AirPort Base Station and put the Panther system on the AEBS, also on the Panther system download Chicken of the VNC and Apple Remote Desktop Client 2.1 then follow my procedures to share the screen of the Panther system. If that works please let me know.
Hope this helps.

netdude,
Thanks for your reply and suggestions. The problem with putting the Panther system on the AEBS is that I have it set for WPA2 security (2 macbooks and an intel imac) and to put the Panther system on it would require me to drop the security level to WEP. The Panther computer connects using a D-Link 810+ ethernet bridge that only supports up to 256bit WEP. It is the only computer that connects to my network via the old Graphite airport (which only supports 40bit WEP). Sometimes I have my old Pismo and my wife's ibook clamshell which have original airport cards in them that go on the network via the old Graphite. If I can't get it to work with screen sharing I can always resort to configuring things via the computer.

OK, Now I understand the reason for the bridge, just remember to put ARD and CotVNC on the Panther computer to get everything working. Just so you know, the steps I provided for you to do are for the Panther system, Screen Sharing is already setup in Leopard.
Good luck in getting it working.
