i am trying to capture video into final cut pro. I have a Panasonic DV camera that worked fine until i installed Leopard. Now the capture window freezes when i launch it. If i unplug the camera it then launches, but won't recognize the camera when i plug it back in. I hooked up the same camera and cable to a G4 laptop running tiger and it works fine.
anybody?

the capture window will open... then i get the beachball and it if i leave it plugged in it will "quit responding" if i pull out the firewire cable... the beachball of death immediately goes away and the capture window opens. However it will not respond to the camera if i plug the firewire cable back in. This camera and cable work fine on both a G4 laptop running Tiger and a Dual quad core running Tiger.

Lets look at the system thats not working
What version of FCP are you running and on what system are you using in on. (The system thats not allowing you to capture is it Intel or PC)
Look at you sequence settings
Repair permissions
Rest A/V devices before capture from within FCP.
Are you up to date with QT ? on the system thats not working.

Running a G5 dual 1.8.
I have repaired permissions
QT is up to date
Running Jaguar... i upgraded to Jaguar a few months ago and that's when my problems began
I am going to try to throw away preferences and hope that works.
thanks for helping sorry it's taken so long to get back

Lounge Console inside your Utilities folder. It might give you a clue as to what is preventing FCP from working with your camera. You can see exactly what your computer is up to and sometimes it can give you a reason why things crash or freeze. I would suggest to clear the log so that what ever happens is very obviously displayed.

Running FCP 6.02. tried throwing away preferences and it worked.... but only the first time i launch the capture window. If i close the capture window then try to launch again... it locks up (beachball)... if i then throw away the preferences file it will work.
i guess i can do this everytime i have to capture from my firewire camera (what a freakin pain)

Yes a clean probably would help. I learned the hard way.
Try a reinstall FCS
this to find all you files

After more thought about it try to reinstall FCS remove all traces of it and check if you camera has any firmware updates needing to be installed. I had the JVC GY-HD100 and there were issues similar to what you are describing with capturing HDV to FCP but they released a firmware update the fixed that problem.

No. I learned the hard way when it comes to Pro Apps you don't want to do an upgrade or achieve and install always do a clean install if you can. But what you can do is delete FCS from your system restart the computer and reinstall the studio.
I would also check if you camera has any firmware updates it always go to stay on top of those things.
What is your camera model?
