Because you have instant access to each browser?s bookmarks, it no longer matters where you save a bookmark?which also means you no longer have to stop and think about where you saved a particular site the next time you want to visit it.
Unless I'm missing something, you DO have to stop and think about where you saved a particular bookmark. Either that or you could end up looking through several collections of bookmarks (they're separated by browser, afterall) to find the one you want. It seems to me that synchronizing bookmarks across your various browsers is a much more straightforward solution for those who use several browsers intensively.

Touche ;) The point I was trying -- and apparently failed -- to make is that you don't have to stop and think, "Did I save that bookmark to Firefox or Safari?" and then go launch each of the browsers to find it. Instead, you've got a single menu that lets you browse all your bookmarks in one location.

I agree, which is why I'm a fan of Bookit, which I've previously reviewed. But this is a nice, free alternative. Remember: an appearance in Gems doesn't necessarily mean something is the very best -- it just means it's good ;)

Mainly because Netscape for the Mac has reached "end of Life" and not been updated in years. It has been suprseeded by Seamonkey which was Mozilla a few years back. If you are using Netscape 7.2 or older, I highly encourage you to give Seamonkey a try. It works great with the same look and feel of NS7 but with much more customiztion (Check out MonkeyMenu and Tab Clicking Options) and can render the web better than the NS7 too (e.g.; Try ESPN with NS)

From the article:
But from Dan Frakes above:
Now I'm confused. In the article it implies that it is possible to group all bookmarks together without segregating by browser, but Dan's reply implies that this is NOT possible.
So, which is it?

... and you can choose to show all bookmarks grouped together in the main menu instead of in browser-specific submenus.

I've fallen behind in my updating my URLs, but the advantage of the old workhorse URL Manager Pro is that it can consolidate all your bookmarks and delete duplicates, and all bookmarks are accessible from a single finder icon. The problem is that I use different bookmarks in different browsers because I've needed different identities. For example, I have a personal gmail acct and a separate webmaster acct for business.
Now with 1password, my need for separate identities can be handled in all browsers. So I need to consolidate my bookmarks into one. I was hoping AllBookmarks might do that for me, but it doesn't.

Doesn't work with Omniweb. Also broken is it's menu to select which browser's bookmarks are to be displayed. It's impossible to check or uncheck these. I had to open it's prefs in order to do this.
Plus I cannot work out the hell it's ordering the bookmarks. It certainly doesn't look like the screenshots above! :-( This is what I see:. WTF is that mess?

BookIt is definitely the best...but good luck in getting the publisher to keep up with "released" browser editions. I asked him long before FireFox 3 was released when it would be compatible with BookIt and he told me "when it's released". It's been quite a while since FireFox 3 was released and his latest comment is "we're working on...can't tell you when." Most of us buy applications because we need them, and when they don't work anymore (as with FireFox 3 and BookIt), they're useless. I'm not just trying to complain about the publisher here...I'm very thankful he developed BookIt, but all it does for me now is sync with .Mac, which I can do for free with just .Mac.
