Yup. It should be turn ON Airplane mode -- in order to turn OFF Wi-Fi access.

I and a friend are not having problems with sending/receiving mail, but we aren't able to synch our calendars. Two other friends are having no problems with either mail or calendars.

The staff in my local Apple store regularly deletes and resets customer yahoo, gmail, aol, and other accounts to solve this problem. They say the only consistently reliable email account is .mac "because the iPhone regularly tries to update the email server information and if it gets any kind of error, it forgets the old settings. The only server it knows about for sure is .mac."

Could a timeout on a slow Edge connection be "any type of error"?

The annoying thing about this fix is you lose everything in the outgoing mail folder.

When you delete your account and recreate it, you lose everything in the Outbox - frustrating!
