I would like to see one that is already on the phone work as it always should have... LANDSCAPE TEXT/EMAIL!

Also, I hope we can install self signed security certificates. Small businesses don't all have the coin for the others when it makes no difference outrside of this.

FOREVER I have been waiting for mac to make a tiny carry-around computer to use like I have used my Palm Pilot--FOR WORD PROCESSING. It has bluetooth, and a fold up keyboard. Both go in a pocket, a fanny pack, even an evening size purse.

I write, and blog, and it's the greatest, just to use a little thing. Sometimes you just don't need a full size computer. Alot of times, a laptop is unwieldy. Even the macbook air seems too big for, say, when I am riding my bike to a place and know that sometime I am going to want to do some writing. It is so much easier to carry a small thing.

I use the Palm, but I am not thrilled with it. (I am on my third and this one doesn't even have a camera like my prior one.) But it is the only thing out there that does this, that I have found. IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL ON THE IPHONE. And I love the iphone. I have not bought one ---really not because I already have a contract with sprint--but the big reason is: I am waiting for it to be able to be used for document writing with a keyboard!

Mac should make a mini-keyboard, and put a word processing app in iphone. in the least, text editing. I need that. I think a lot of people do--everytime I whip out the palm with documents-to-go, people always ask me what it is I am typing on.. . each and everytime...

that's when i'll buy it. immediately, and mostly for that purpose! (and because the iphone is beautiful).

i did like most of your suggestions, some seemed way more important than some of the others. all good. surely, none of em are as important, for me, as what I wrote above....

All of which, if you'll read some of the previous posts here and the comment in the article itself, are considered system enhancements, not third party apps. Hence, that's why they're not on our lists.

Everyone here seems to be missing a couple EXTREMELY IMPORTANT APPs!

What about the basic capability to COPY and PASTE??? This was one of the core functions that Apple had from the start. Forget about the other frills for now, the COPY and PASTE function must be added ASAP as a basic function for most of these new apps.

The second CRITIAL APP is the other basic ability to SEARCH the CONTACTs or in fact a GLOBAL SEARCH! How often do you forget the name of someone and need to search your contacts for the phone number, address or other item in the Notes section.

These other APPs are really nice but let's get the iPhone off the training wheels and get the basic functions that any of the other smartphones already have!

No one here has missed these features. As had been said numerous times, the list is based on third-party apps that could be built rather than system functions that Apple would have to add.

You might be right on the Apple thing but I really can't believe all of these folks have not missed Copy, Paste and Search at one point or another! How about you??

Anyone!!

WHY IS EVERYONE OVERLOOKING BLUETOOTH?
My computer recognizes the iphone Bluetooth connection. I could play music or movies on my computer or laptop through Bluetooth. How about syncing with iTunes through Bluetooth. But Apple has confined the Bluetooth capabilties to 'headset only'. No exceptions.

As an archaeologist who uses GPS and topo maps all the time, I've been holding off on buying a Pocket PC with Pocket Navigator so that I can display topo maps and my GPS location via a Bluetooth GPS unit.

The spectacular LED backlighting and iPhone-like touchpad scrolling/rotation, etc on my new 17" MBP convince me that something like an iPhone should work beautifully as a "mapping GPS". Of course, I may just have to wait until Apple comes out with a "PocketMac" (which is what the Newton should have been...)

Re your point #2: We are in close agreement (see my post #149). Your Bluetooth/Google Earth/Google Maps solution would probably serve my purposes, too... I also have one of those Bluetooth GPS units ('talking to' a Pocket PC for now.) iPhone's great display would blow away the Pocket PC...

The to-do list is huge, and I'd like some kind of book reader as well. But I'd rather it wasn't tied to Amazon since I already have a nice selection of books downloaded for reading on my PDA.
But what I really need is the ability to design and use my own databases that I could sync easily between the iPhone and my Mac. If you're wondering what this is for, consider trying to keep track of a large personal inventory (maybe a toy collection, for instance). I'm so jealous of existing PDA applications that do this for Windows and PalmOS. Alas, I haven't found one that works with Mac and PalmOS and I'm really ready to ditch the PDA as soon as I can get the missing pieces on the iPhone.

Hi,

I did use Treo and previously Palm so I know what you mean. I just bought Bento because it sounds like it would do what you are asking for. There is a trial version. It says this is for collections. Maybe it will work.

Bento doesn't do sharing, so it doesn't look like the app I need. But thanks for mentioning it since the recent MacWorld article about Bento also mentioned Delicious Monster's Delicious Library which may be exactly what I need.

I have used Delcious Library for Dvds for a long time. Is there a way to link it to the IPhone and to put other collections with photos in it?
