Revive and re-institute Newton intelligence and applications
into the iPhone.
Blah, blah, blah...nobody can seem to figure out why Apple
has turned a deaf ear to this brainchild, when it makes so much
sense, and the hard work has already been done. There's even
an open source emulator for the Newton called Einstein available
that runs on nix. Einstein* features includes 1/3 to 1/2 of the
want-list items in the MW list anyway! Native Newton handwriting
rec techonology is already in OS X in the form of Inkwell, so
we're just moments away from having it working again.
Why are Newtontalk folks (www.newtontalk.net) still suporting
the device 11 years later if there wasn't any interest or value in
the platform!
Apple's original Newton got a deservedly bad rap, because it
was released too soon--before it was really ready for prime time,
and the handwriting rec sucked, but the MessagePad 2000 and
2100 still blows away most anything on the PDA market today,
except for its comparitavely slow speed due to its archaic chipset.
Developers NB: do a little homework on this--you'll be pleasantly
blown away. Newtontalk listers will be glad to help.

What about voice dialing?? Am I the only one that dislikes the iphone's cumbersome way to call contacts?
Click on the phone icon, then click on the contacts icon. Scroll to find the contact, then tap on it, then in the small print, find the number you want among that contact's numbers, tap on the number that you want to call. Impossible in the car of course - or very dangerous. And slow and inconvenient at all times.
Doesn't anyone else see the convenience of just speaking the name of the person you want to call? One step, no looking at the phone..!!??

Other apps would be great, but them main reason I've held off buying an iPhone to replace my Blackberry has to do with standard phone and smartphone (offline PDA) capabilities. I have a detailed comparison between the two devices in my blog: http://blog.manifest...lity.com/?p=15. I'd love to see some of these missing pieces addressed in iPhone v2.0, in addition to 3G data.

I know this thread is old but I would love to see a dictation app and im not sure if it would apply as just an app, but if you could have delicious library on your phone. Then use the camera as the scanner that would certainly kick some butt. Oh and one step further if you could use the same concept and create a wish list program so that as you walk through the store you can scan items you want for your birthday or christmas and then have it upload to your public wish list.

How about a simple application which will let someone with Diabetes record data: blood sugar level, insulin shots, meals, etc on their iPhone then download the info to their computer or e-mail it to their doctor. This could help people to better control their diabetes. The iPhone should be perfect for this use.

Fellow iPhone owners- I hope this will NOT ruffel too many feathers. I really miss my Amiga computer, but when the time came to exchange it for some other system type, I did not choose Apple for the fact that it is mainly a machine for artist and not for those in business or those needing a system for "office" type of record keeping. I went with the MS computer and with the MS PDA's. I switched to the Apple iPhone and a iTouch because of the ease and beauty of these 2. Since then and upon reading MacWorld reports, I'm starting to realize that this switch may have cheated me out of many "apps" that my Treo 750 (MS Mobile 6 with 3G) phone had. If apple is really interested in getting MORE of us to "switch", then it needs to start thinking differently and developing programs that will work on its iPhone as well as its computer and yet have the beauty of this iPhone. Touch screen for the Apple would also be great, which I read was left out of this latest OS change called "snow Leporard". WHY? Well you've heard from an user of the "other" OS. BTW, I hate MS Vista and am sticking to Win XP and would switch to another OS if there were those programs and the ability to switch, which I use.
Thanks for your time.and reading my observations.
