I have a community of users using Clunky handsets, and Iphone looks like the right next step, we want to create a number of applications uniquely for my community of 1000 - 2000 users. How can I control via App Store the use of these applications only for my community...or can I via some other method load my Iphones with all apps. ??

"Ia??m a Windows developer and really, really want in on this sweet iPhone action, yet the iPhone developer tools run only on Intel Macs running Leopard. WTF?"
Can one develop for Windows Mobile on another platform than Windows ?
No ? So, what's the problem...

My biggest question is whether apps developed for the iPhone will be purchasable for the iPod Touch as well. You know this will be a huge question that lots of people will be asking. It should have been on the FAQ.
This IS answered in various places throughout Apple's announcements and docs. The iPod Touch is essentially an iPhone without EDGE (or 3G in the future). Same OS, same hardware capabilities except for the phone part. So most apps will work on both platforms, especially App Store.

Apple has an Enterprise program for $299 which answers your need. Check their overview page.

Great article. However, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that it's my personal opinion that using "WTF" in a public article like this is not very professional.
Hey, I love Macworld. Just offering two cents.

I'm confused, what's not very professional about "What's The Facts"?

My question is about the free app issue. We make a web product (Heap CRM) that we charge a monthly fee for. All of the add ons are free (QuickSilver integration, Google Gadget, etc.). I want to do the same with the iPhone native app I'm working on. My question is will Apple let me? I mean, will they consider this a slightly less egregious version of the "registration code" example in the article. This seems like this would be a problem for a number of companies, ironically, salesforce (who was in the presentation) being one of them.

One of the iphones major deficiencies is the last of a task/todo function. It's strange that the function is part of ical and mail but not syncable with iphone. I've had a Treo for years and will ditch it for an iphone just as soon as the task app is available. Hope you or another developer can develop it. A copy of the task features in Palm's software would be perfect.
