I installed the latest best of 1Password and all seems to be fixed! Sorry for the panic. :-D

do you have an intel or powerpc? others on 1password's site are reporting that safari 3.1 breaks 1password.

Apple doesn't say Safari's handling of Java is six times faster; it says its handling of Javascript is faster. Java and Javascript are not the same thing.

Javascript is six times faster. Not Java.

Still doesn't work for Hotmail :-( doesn't load the screen at all, just cycles back and forth. This works in IE (obviously) and in Firefox just fine.

I'm currently using Safari 3.1 on a MacBook Pro (Intel) using the latest beta release of 1Password (2.5.12-BETA 8, Build 6248) and no problems so far.
You can update to the 1Password beta by choosing Preferences from the 1Password menu, clicking on the Updates tab and checking the "Include BETA versions..." checkbox.
I hope this helps...

Who REALLY believes that Safari can handle Java? I mean, really. Top say that it does so, SIX times faster is just not true. They said it was the faster browser on earth at 3.0. And it wasn't. To make a sweeping statement as if it always has been and still is now, just feels like I'm once again being setup for a major let down.

The article did not quote any claims about Java. They only mentioned Javascript, which is completely different. Confusing Javascript with Java is like confusing a kangaroo rat with a kangaroo. Sure, there are some similarities, but they are completely different animals.

What I'd like to know is if there is a way to run Safari 2, 3, and 3.1 all on the same machine. I need to test my pages in each, and I'm running out of machines to do it on.

That's odd.

3.1 just loaded my Hotmail page almost instantly.

No problems with hotmail at all...

Running it now. The funny thing it required a restart. Why?

Because Apple integrated their Web browser with their OS, like Microsoft. ;)

WebKit is updated and it's at an OS level so that other applications can use it to render, like Mail, etc.

If you rely on application or system extensions ala 1password, then it is probably best to never upgrade anything that said extension interacts with until extension developer clears it.

This is why I avoid such things wherever possible.

What you're talking about is a standalone and yeah, you can get them. Of course, you don't really need to test in 3.1 and 3 as there aren't that many differences unless you're using experimental features like HTML5 or CSS3 to build your sites. Safari has been rather standards compliant for a while. You might get some minor changes between Safari 2 and 3, but not so much.

Besides, unlike IE, Firefox and Safari are quickly updated by their users so working of the latest one is usually pretty safe. So unless you're testing something rather advanced you should be perfectly fine.
