LaCie d2 48x24x48x CD-RW vs. OWC Mercury Pro 48x24

LaCie d2 48x24x48x CD-RW vs. OWC Mercury Pro 48x24x48 CD-RW External Oxford911 FireWire Solution

The Lacie drive is offered for sale on the Apple web siite and the other at OWC. These external drives both use the Lite-on mechanism, however I do not know if the model numbers for the mechanisms or the firmware used to update them are different. I will be saving about $35.00 with the OWC version. Does anyone think it is worth it? Will there be a difference in performance?

The OWC site claims to be 10.2 bootable, Itunes 3, disk burner, retrospect, toast lite compatible.

I will be using both of them mainly to burn vcds from iMovie with Toast Titanium on a Cube running 10.2.

Thanks!

Are you sure it isn't Lacie 48x12x48 or 52x24x52?

I have the lacie 48x12x48 ext FW CDRW and I love it. Fast, Very nice case with a cool power button in front that lights up blue, came with a FW cable. It also came with Toast lite, but I already am using Toast Titanium 5.1.2 on a G4 running 10.2.3.

at Clubmac it is $159.00
or $179 for the 52x

BTW, don't care about what speed the rewrite is. I've never used it in my life.
