booting from firewire cd-drive

My internal cd-rw drive is malfunctioning and I am thinking of purchasing a firewire cd-rw drive. I would like to know if I can boot up from a firewire cd drive. Has anyone succesfully or unsuccessfully tried this? If so, which model are you using? I'm thinking of purchasing the LaCie 48x12x48 or the EZquest drive. Thanks for any suggestions!

I use the EZQ FW CD-RW. You can boot up from it. It takes up a lot of desktop space though. Also, it's advertised on the box as being being bundled with Toast but it actually comes with Discribe. All in all, not bad.
