"new" power supply for TiBook

Okay, I have a rev.B. 667Mhz powerbook (TiBook) - i.e. the one with VGA out, pre-DV out. About 2 months ago I ordered a new power supply from the Apple on-line store (to replace one my bird chewed up). This is the "new" three-prong version Apple is shipping (white brick as before, just 3-prong wall plug, versus 2 prong).

My problem - this power supply seems to "cut out" periodically, especially if the laptop goes to sleep. That is, the plug into the laptop seems normal (i.e. green ring when running, orange when charging), but every now and then, the indicator ring just turns off, and, sure enough, the TiBook is running on battery. If I unplug the power supply from the wall plug, and plug it right back in, the laptop plug indicator comes right back up (eg. green for power, orange for charging).

Why would the power supplu cut out like that? I have two other power supplies, both ordered and received when I bought the TiBook back in October 2001 (i.e. the 2-prong versions) which work flawlessly - what the heck has changed (Apple assured me this new power supply was backwards compatible with all G4 powerbooks??).

Anyone have any suggestions??

Note, my TiBook is fine, and the new power supply seems to work alright, just if left alone, it cuts out (i.e. it provides "good" power, when it's running right).

Re: "new" power supply for TiBook
Have no help to offer, but do want to commiserate; I have the exact same problem. New "three prong" adapter that came with a 15" 1ghz PB and it is doing the exact same thing. In my case it goes for weeks without a hiccup, but then inexplicably just shuts off. I have the adapter plugged into a surge protector under the table, so rather than crawl under there I just unplug the wall plug cord from the square body of the adapter. After reattaching it I am back in business and the power adapter nor the Powerbook seem an worse for wear. If the problem increases in frequency I'll probably be giving AppleCare a call, but for now it is nothing more than a mere annoyance.

i had that problem. I bought it back to apple for service and they told me some board was defective.. they told me a name, but i don't remember.. it's a small piece that connects straight from the power adaptor.

get it serviced.

It is the DC-In Board.

For those who don't qualify for RMA replacement (bought it second-hand in my case).
here's the trick: do not push the prong all the way in, leave a clearance of 2-3 mm. between your power outlet and the prong's base. It works well for me. Got this advice from local applestore in Bangkok!
